201765 I have a few days off and I'm not reading anything. So I wanted to offer to beta read (for free) for anyone who has a finished work now.

Things I like: chick lit, women's fiction, thrillers, good books

Would strongly prefer under 80K words.

Takers?

201765 Hi Ted, I'm going to PM you. Thanks for answering!

201765 Does anyone here have any military experience or knowledge and can give me some information on my current WIP? One of the characters is a veteran and I just want to be accurate about some of the terminology. I can’t figure it out from looking online. Thanks!

201765 I'm going to be different and say I like number 2 the best, but there are things that I like and don't like about all of them. I would change the second one to:

Increasingly gruesome murders are happening in the city of Chicago. With no apparent connection and every lead turning into a dead end, Detectives Row Ferguson and Jonah Rome have the chief of police breathing down their necks to solve the cases. When crucial evidence goes missing, Ferguson and Rome find their jobs in jeopardy.

Is someone trying to sabotage the cases? Will they find the killer before they lose more than their reputation?

201765 thanks!!! If I somehow fail to follow anyone back, please let me know because I clearly don't know what I am doing!

201765 They're definitely legit. I think they have decent results, depending what service you pick.

201765 Erica: OK, I set up an author page. Yes, this is the kind of advice I need! All good ideas. Maybe I can also post reviews of other books when I write them....?

Thanks, Marie! Joined.

201765 Thanks, Marie! Are there any FB groups you would recommend joining?

201765 I appreciate it, Alex! Honestly, I just don't want to be a loser with zero friends/follows/likes/twerks.

I used to be into social media when i was a young 'un and there was less of it and it was all less intimidating. I think it's one of those things that's, if not necessary, really important for a self-pub author. So I'm taking the plunge!

201765 I apologize in advance if I didn't put this in the right place or I'm not supposed to post this here.

So I'm a total social media beginner. I've been back on the self-pub wagon for a year and still didn't manage to start a FB account or Twitter account. So I just started one today because I know it's dumb not to.

Anyway, first I'm wondering what you guys use these accounts for? I know that sounds like a super stupid question, but like I said, I'm a social media beginner. I want to attempt to post regularly though. I find all self-pub stuff really interesting and it would be fun to share my thoughts.

Also, these are my accounts:

and for facebook: https://www.facebook.com/annabelle.co...

If you are so inclined, please like me or friend me or twit me or whatever one is supposed to do in this forum!

Thanks in advance!

201765 I don't usually read that genre, but I thought it sounded really good.

I would take out the word "finally" starting the second to last sentence of the last paragraph. And change the last sentence to:

"If she lives through its horrors, she will save her loved ones and they will finally be free."

201765 As a reader, I do feel like I want some sort of conclusion at the end of the book. I read Pretty Little Liars a few years ago, and I still remember being really angry that the mystery of whodunnit had not been solved at the end of the book!

Then again, I think in a mystery, the expectation is that the mystery will be solved at the end of a book. If it's a romance, it doesn't necessarily need to come to a happy ending conclusion at the end, right?

201765 Is there anything you put in the book description for the first one that indicated that it was going to end on a cliffhanger? something that will warn people so they aren't surprised and disappointed?

201765 So I recently wrote a romance book that ended up being so long that I decided to break it into two separate books. I worked with them both to make them into two separate complete stories. However, I can't help the fact that the first one sort of ends in a cliffhanger.

At the end of the first book, the H and h meet up again after a period of being separated. He does something pretty bad to upset her and she ends up screaming at him and running off. He vows to someday get her back. End book 1.

I know people don't like it when books that end on cliffhangers. Is there anything I can do to fix this or mitigate it so that people won't give it a bad review just because it doesn't end in the H and h getting together?
201765 The dumbest thing I did was not writing a series back in 2011 when I started my publishing career. If I could go back in time....

201765 I've been also wondering what the optimal price for a book is. I generally price my books at $2.99. Mostly because anything less than that and there is a huge drop off in revenue due to the 30% royalties. I want to sell books more than I want to make money. But then again, the times when I raised my price to $3.99, I don't see much of a drop off in sales.
