Still pretty impressive. According to this woman, that's about what someone offered to pay for an article and she made a lot more. Also, this is a great way to gain exposure and drum up interest in your books. Something like 6000 people read my articles- I'd never get that on my blog. I'm sure if I wrote more mainstream books instead of children's it would lead to sales.

I can only guess, but I think it doesn't detract from others. I can't figure out how they pay- Some articles have more claps and make less money- But I don't think your articles would take away income from a piece written by a paying member. Either a clap has a monetary value or it doesn't. If you are not a member the claps have no monetary value. Does that help?

You pay the five dollars a month- when you publish an article- you can choose to make it exclusive to Medium member. If you do make it exclusive- then if members clap- you make money on your work. I read an article by a woman today who said in her first month she made over a thousand dollars.
Some of the claps are different colors- so I assume that determines if they get paid. But clapping is still important because the more claps- the more they showcase your writing. I am enjoying Medium- the articles have been fantastic, I made a nice few bucks last month, and I think I am gathering a following- all good things for a writer. I don't blatantly ask people to clap on there- like I've seen others do- but I have almost a 1000 followers already.
