I'm still enjoying it a lot. There's one thing that's nagging at me, though. I just read the part where Sissex comforted the older female at the market, and the conversation right afterward with Rosemary and Kizzy. It makes sense to me that these characters would be very open-minded and accepting. And don't get me wrong-I'm all for open-mindedness and acceptance. But with the exception of Corben, they strike me as a little too perfect in their attitudes. It takes me out of the story a bit, like the author's message or personal ideals are bigger than her story in some parts. That particular scene didn't bring all those thoughts to mind-this sense has been slowly and partially unconsciously building the longer I read.

I actually like Corbin and don't feel like I'm not supposed to. He's a grump and a worrier, but I think he's going to show more layers as the story progresses. I'm sure you all know if I'm right or wrong about that by now. My kindle tells me I'm 20% through.
I like how the world building is working so far, done more in fun dialogue than characters reflecting for pages on how their world works or hefty expository on the part of the author.

I just met Kizzy and Jenks. I love all the characters already. Thanks again for inviting me and getting this on my radar!

I will give it a whirl. I'm starting grad school next week, so that will probably slow down my pleasure reading. It's been quite a while since I was a student.
So if you start seeing posts from me several weeks after you're all done talking about it...that's why.
