I agree, the Vegas part was very drawn-out and I found myself thinking several times "Where is this book going?" Took me forever to get through that part, but once over, the second part of the book was better. There was actually more interesting storytelling and I read this much quicker.

I'll be joining this read. I've been wanting to see the movie for this, but always love to read the book first. I am not a fast reader, but am looking forward to this.

From what I have read on Mr Dickens and His Carol, it is a fiction based on some of the facts surrounding the writing of A Christmas Carol. It is not a non-fiction at all.

I second The Handmaid's Tale

I know the story very well as I have watched several movie versions over the years and have seen a musical stage production of the story. However, I had never read Dickens's A Christmas Carol, so I'm glad it was in the group reads this month. I found it enjoyable, and though my mind kept picturing the movies while reading, I was able to appreciate the storytelling of this classic. I especially loved the part when the Christmas pudding was described, as previously that day, I had explained to my mother the way an authentic British Christmas pudding was made! I called her then and quoted the whole description, letting her know how much of a coincidence it was.
This was my first Christmas book of December and it put me in the Holiday mood!

Hello, my name is Stephanie and I have been really interested in reading challenges recently. I haven't read many English classics growing up as I am French-Canadian, so I thought this group would help me "catch-up" on what I missed.
