Book Group (2 new)

187539 Thoughts:

All bring a suggestion and then the group agrees which are the top choices to read - and thus the next few months of books are decided.

Choose a theme for 2-3 books in a row. Or revisit the same theme from time to time.

Avoid getting stuck in a rut, if the last few books have been contemporary fiction, how about a non-fiction choice? If you've even reading a lot of historical fiction, how about a fantasy? Some genres produce more books suitable for discussion than others, but every genre has books that make good choices for book clubs.

Look for recommendations at your library or bookstore. Most libraries have lists of recommended titles and 'librarian picks', and many libaries will be happy to work with you and your group to find book choices that you're likely to enjoy (and some even have special book club kits to borrow - with multiple copies of the book, or will help source copies within the library's collection).

Check out lists of awards such as The Pulitzer Prize, Booker Prize and National Book Awards. Many of these books make good choices for book clubs.

It's unlikely that everybody will agree on every book choice every time. A majority vote will carry - treat new genres or authors with an open mind - after all most people join a book club to expand their reading experience.

Lets try to stray from books that deal with politics and religion since those topics can get pretty heated and we want to have a good time and respect each other.
Book Group (2 new)

187539 Hey everyone,

I was thinking we could try to do a book club within our group. I've never started a book club but I do know that we must all be in agreement.

1. Pick the Genre we want to choose from.
2. Select a book that is currently available - if we would like to pick an upcoming book we will "shelve" it for another date.
3. We should be mindful of the cost of the books we are choosing to read - most people probably would like to get the book online or from a library.
4. Popular books may be hard to find due to everyone already reading them - if we happen to pick a book that is popular and it becomes hard to find for most of the group we will circle back and pick a new book.
5. We should each take turns being a moderator to lead discussions.

Me too about commenting and I probably should be on here a lot since I started this group for us. It snowed last night and its super cold here in Wisconsin, USA. I really wish to see some warmer weather here soon because honestly this snow can just go away!

However I do love rain instead of the sun, Im weird but I just dont like the sun and being overly hot.
