Honestly I can’t remember too much about the book except the setting, the mill, the stream, the time travel, forest, horses, etc. Dordogne impressed me so much I wanted to travel there. I have put Timeline by Michael Crichton on my list of books to read. From the descriptions this may be it! Goodreads is so awesome. Thanks everyone for your help! I only wish Goodreads would require a last name or a knick name for our user names!! Hard to figure out who is who here!

Hum... you are the second person to mention Timeline so I read a bit more carefully about the plot. I don’t remember those specifics but it is set in DORDOGNE! AND jumps back in time. That seems too coincidental. I’m going to pick it up and give it another read. I have to thank you both for probably solving this mystery for me!

The mill over the stream in Dordogne was an important factor. I know it jumped from medieval times to present. I can’t remember if it was a mystery. I remember I wanted to visit Dordogne after reading the novel. I’m sorry I can’t remember more! I know I really liked the book.

No not Caves of Perigore. Thanks for researching! It was definitely set in Dordogne.

Ah, you said “hover over”. I’m accessing goodreads from my phone. Maybe the Mobil app is more limited that from a PC.

What page? Can you be specific? I clicked on my picture and I don’t see “comments” as an option. I have basically clicked on everything! Lol.

How do I get to that page myself or is that only a page for administrators?

No not Timeline. Thank you for looking!

I can’t find my post. Should I repost? I tried looking for a search button but non is available. The book was set in Dordogne France and involved flashbacks and a mill.

Could this be the book by Cormack McCarthy, The Road?

Read this 10 years ago. A young woman goes back to the town she grew up in to try to solve the mystery of who her father is. About six men are described. The story involves an old library and the Lake, where at some point a mysterious creature appears I believe it also had a map of the town drawn out in the front of the book.

I read the book in about 2000-2010. The setting of Dordogne was extremely important as the author spend a lot of time describing the area, the forest, the mill, the stream and the map of the area. I believe the story jumped from present time back to a time in the past. There was a scene in the forest with horses. Thank you!

Yes, close it. I didn't see the movie, Rebecca, but I just read the book. I remember reading another more recent novel or seeing a recent movie with a similar plot twist to Rebecca. We can drop this subject.

I may be confusing it with a movie I saw. I think they may have borrowed the theme from the book, Rebecca.

Contains spoilers: family mystery where a woman is drowned in the water by the old fishing cabin. Turned out a family member murdered her. Someone witnessed the Murder but was keeping it quiet.
