LOL - Yes! That's why I was so excited when I found this group!
When I was in college, I used to have this rickety book shelf - I kept all my books on it alphabetized. My cat used to love to jump up on it in the middle of the night. With it being rickety, and my college slum apartment floor being sloped - he'd knock it over once every couple of weeks or so, and it would take me a good hour to re-alphabetize everything!!! LOL. Darn cat.

I read this book in the early 90's during college. What I remember is that there were several sections that were all about different cities in the US. The one I remember most vividly was on East St. Louis - how they hadn't had trash pick up in so many years, the teachers weren't being paid in a timely manner, the bridge across the Mississippi River had been shut down, etc.
I believe in this book was the creek that was known to burst into flames because of all the crap being spewed into it from Monsanto.
Any ideas??? Thanks! :-)

Okay, this book has a lot of information about biking - safety rules, etc. I know there was a story about a family who took vacations on their bikes. It had info about how much cheaper it would be to ditch the vehicle and use your bike - maintenance, insurance, etc. Any ideas?

Okay, in the early 90's I saw this book about MLK, Jr. When I started reading it though - it was totally written from a racist's point of view. I remember that he slammed MLK through the whole thing - it was bizarre. I THINK the author was a preacher/reverend of some sort, but I wouldn't swear to it. It was written in the 60's before MLK, Jr. was murdered. I'm hoping that since I can't find the book - it just faded into obscurity! Of course though - not figuring out the name/author of the book is driving me nuts. LOL. Darn literary OCD....

Finally found it - it is called Murder in Little Rock! That should not have been that hard for me to find. LOL.

I just looked through 39 pages of true crime books, and I couldn't find this one. Alright - here goes - I know this crime happened to an affluent family in Little Rock, AR. I THINK they were a couple in their 40's or 50's. It may have just been one of them killed - the person may have been killed by someone who was hired by the spouse. Any suggestions?

That's it! Fabulous. Thank you so much.

I got a message that someone had replied and got all happy thinking someone knew! LOL. Actually, the funny thing is that I didn't enjoy the book all that much. It was before I read the story of Nicholas and Rasputin, and I thought it was way too far fetched!

This novel was set in the 80's or 90's, but it was the story of Nicholas, his wife, their hemophiliac son, their "spiritual leader," and many other political players. In the novel, the president of the US took the place of Nicholas, etc. The president becomes too dependent on his spiritual counsel for help with his son and later political affairs. People close to the president decide to get rid of him, but he is incredibly hard to kill. They shoot him, poison him, and try to drown him, but in the end he dies from hypothermia. I can't for the life of me remember the name of this novel.

Man, this is bugging me! :-) I believe I read this book in the early 90's. The book was about several aliens who were on earth - I believe they crash landed (not sure about that part). They could communicate to each other through singing, and I believe that's how they contacted their people. People on Earth found out that they were aliens, and at the end they were rushing to leave the planet before they were captured and studied.
