184768 I am currently still reading Thirteen Reasons Why. The current theme occurring in the novel is guilt. As he continues to listen to the tapes and the suspense builds up, his guilt is eating him alive. He will never receive forgiveness though, because Hannah is dead.

This novel reflects the theme of death as the main character, Hannah, leaves behind a tape record recording thirteen reasons why she committed suicide. Throughout the book, the author narrates the story and includes the messages left in the tapes. The messages are for thirteen different people who inflicted pain on Hannah to cause her death.
