The Adventure of the Blue CarbuncleIn this short story Sherlock is looking for a person who stole a priceless gem. At the end of the story Sherlock discovers that the person who committed the crime feel on economic hard times and is suffering from extreme guilt over his action. It is obvious to Sherlock that this person will not commit a crime again, so Sherlock lets him go with the promise that if he commits another crime he will be caught. This is an example of justice being chosen over discipline.
The Adventures of Sherlock HolmesIn the first short story collection a common theme is justice. Justice, however is not always the same as discipline. In these stories people's actions and crimes always become known. Many times the characters get what they deserve based on their crimes. Sherlock Holmes often takes into account what act the other characters have committed and their circumstances before deciding on which form of "justice" would be best.

The Sign of FourOne of the themes this novel centers around in the emptiness of wealth. While the novel is a mystery, many of the characters are concerned with the search for wealth. Also, several of the characters suffer consequences because of the choices they make because of the their quest for wealth. This novel follows the normal Holmes style with the Sherlock's use of perception and all of the elements of mystery. Overall it is a compelling read!

Scott wrote: "i hope meredith will talk to me"Your post on here should be about the books you are reading. Seeing as you chose the "Theme of Hope" because you are reading "The Great Gatsby" it would be creepy if you are pinning for Meredith the way that Gatsby pines for Daisy. Please write only about your novel from here on out.
