180652 We have the humidity but not the temps. It's about 12c/54f with 95% humidity currently and it's not going to get a whole lot warmer today. I feel like it's raining a whole lot more this summer than in previous years but that could be me.

180652 My coworker is off the next couple days meaning that I'm walking home. No big deal but I want to make sure I'm covered for the weather so I check the forecast as we've been getting a fair bit of rain lately. First site, rain, all the rain, nothing but rain, we are recreating Noah's ark here. Second site, rain? what rain? there is nothing but sun in the forecast. Third site, meh, maybe it will rain, maybe it wont, why are you bugging me about this.

I guess I'm bringing my light jacket for the morning and packing my rain jacket. Knowing my luck this week it will snow this afternoon and drop to -40c/f.

180652 I got some much needed sleep last night and it was glorious. Still a bit tired this morning but feeling better.

Now I need to rant about the weather sites. One site, nothing but sun today. Next site, rain, all the rain, starting at lunch and lasting all night. Third site, rain, maybe, uhhhhh, at this hour, in the morning. None of them can agree on anything and it's maddening.

180652 It's not the thunder it's the rain. I have my windows open at all times because that is usually enough, kind of, but if it rains I need to close my windows. Especially as it seems that the rain usually comes from the west and my bedroom window is facing west. If I have to close both my windows (north and west facing) my apartment gets warm, really warm, and it's hard to sleep. That and I'm just one of those people that if I'm awake, I'm awake for a bit.

180652 This is going to be a miserable day. I've been awake now for 5-6ish hours because of an intense thunderstorm that rolled through early this morning. It's already 17c/63f with 88% humidity and the sun isn't even up yet. It's going to be hot and humid all day and I'm not looking forward to it. Honestly it doesn't look like I'll be sleeping a whole lot this week as every night this week is calling for thunderstorms. Hot, humid, and tired.

180652 It's probably a good thing that bookstore is on the other side of country from me. I have a feeling that if someone took me there I would not leave. I'd find a way to hide in the stacks overnight and just not leave.

Fool Moon (The Dresden Files, #2) by Jim Butcher Fool Moon -4 Stars
After listening to the Eric Carter series it got me craving some more Dresden and I was looking for some easy listening after all the nonfiction that I've had this month. These are super enjoyable books and James Marsters as the narrator just bumps it to the next level. The one thing that I will say for the audiobook, and this is very specific for the version I have, please, please, please properly edit these. These were copied from CD to a digital format. What they didn't do was delete the whole "please insert audio disc XX now" and it was driving me bonkers in this one. I'd be all into the story and then suddenly everything would go silent for 30 seconds or so, then I'd here this super snarky voice stating "please insert audio disc...", more silence, and then back to the story. I've encountered this before of course but this time it was just really annoying me.

On to the story itself. Like I mentioned above it was very entertaining. Sure there are some things you just kind of have to roll with. For instance, Harry not knowing anything about werewolves and then just happening to run into all the different kinds, at one time, in the same place. The good far outweighs these things though. For instance the battle in the SIU's headquarters was amazing and it highlights one of the big differences between this series and Eric Carter. Yes, both MC's get the ever living stuffing beaten out of them but it just feels different. When Eric is getting beaten yet again you feel like he is just outclassed. When Harry is getting beaten down you are waiting for him to pull that ace out of his sleeve. How is he going to get out of this situation? What trick is he going to pull? There are actual stakes involved as well. If Harry doesn't get up really bad things are going to happen. When Eric is getting beaten up it's just a beating. Nothing really bad will happen if he doesn't get out. Sure he might lose his life but those don't feel like stakes. You know that the MC won't die because obviously the series goes on. With Harry its the lives of those around him. If he doesn't get back up and keep fighting innocent lives will be lost. It just feels different and adds a layer of tension. Any way I continue both series even if they have their differences.

This was another one of those con/post con reads for me. I was just looking for some light fluffy reading and this series fits the bill perfectly. Yes, it is indeed bottom of the barrel isekai trash but it is actually kind of entertaining. Not the kind of literature that I would praise to no end but the kind that I want to read when I just want to relax and be entertained. It's a chill slice of life adventure story in a fantasy world. The MC is not really challenged by anything and it's about how he will use his powers to affect the world around him. I really don't have a lot to say about this series besides that it's good mindless fun.

I figured it was time to get back to this manga after putting it off for a few months for no real reason. It felt good to return to this world and the stories that it's exploring. It's that right blend of seriousness and goofy humor. I'm not going to let this one slide to the side again.

Frieren Beyond Journey's End, Vol. 2 (Frieren Beyond Journey's End. #2) by Kanehito Yamada Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Vol. 2 -4 Stars
A few years back I started reading this series through fan translations and was interested with this story. Now that the anime is coming out this fall and my library has the official translations I figured it was time to throw myself back into this series. This is the story of an immortal elf and her journey. The series starts with the heroes party returning from a 10 year adventure where they defeated the demon lord. This story isn't about that though it's about what happens next. In particular for the immortal elf that does not share the same concept of time as a human. Before she knows it the party she traveled with is now old and dying/dead. She decides to travel the route they took to defeat the demon lord to explore her feelings and the remember that time. Along the way she picks up a couple of young human traveling partners. It's such an interesting idea to explore. For Frieren getting stuck some where for 6 months, a year, two years, etc is no big deal. She will just continue to explore new magics and life live as it comes. What is two years time to a person who is already 1,000 plus years old. Her human partners though don't feel the same way obviously. Time has a much different meaning for a young human. For the first couple books it's a pretty chill slice of life fantasy series. Towards the end of the second book you get to see a glimpse of Frieren's true power and it is chilling. There was a reason she was part of the legendary party to defeat the demon lord. I am looking forward to exploring this series in manga form and to see what the anime can do. I want to see if the anime can catch that same feeling.

Now for what is next.

Fake It Till You Bake It by Jamie Wesley Fake It Till You Bake It
I'm drifting back into the world of contemporary romances for a challenge. Hopefully this is the good kind of romance that I like and not the other kind that makes me question why I bother reading any contemporary romance at all.

Outside of that I have more manga that I acquired with my reckless use of my library card. I have more Frieren, some Orochi, the end of Princess Jellyfish, PTSD, Fist of the North Star, etc.

180652 Well that was a fun morning. I went out for breakfast with a childhood friend who was passing through. We say there chatting for a couple of hours and it was fun.

I also have another phone thing I found this morning. I'm sorry for all these but I'm finding all these cool things. I have my local library app on my phone and it wasn't until this morning that I was actually looking into it. It has what you would expect, items due, items ready for pick up, etc. It also has my library card with the barcode. Yup, I've got my card on my phone. This is nice because my card is starting to show some signs of wear and tear. That old barcode is getting a bit faded shall we say. Now I don't have to get a new card I can just use my phone.

180652 I don't think they even know any characters. They just figured I would dress up as something. Still can't wrap my mind around it. It's not that I hate cosplay or anything either. My entire personality is about being left alone and being unobtrusive. I don't even wear clothing with logos on them. What in world makes you think that I would be the kind of person that would dress up in a costume?

180652 My work has lost its damned mind. It's no big secret that I'm into nerdy things and that last week I was going to an anime convention. For some bizarre reason everyone seemed to think that I was also getting dressed up as well. No idea how this idea go rolling but apparently Gord liking anime means Gord is going to dress up. The back and forth got to the point where bets were even placed on whether I was dressing up or not. My coworker who works with me all day, and has a shred of common sense, cleaned house with these bets as he knew I wasn't dressing up.

180652 I've had my step counter thing turned on the last few days and it's been interesting. Before that I didn't think I was hitting that fabled 10k steps a day. I figured on a good day I might be getting close but I wasn't hitting it yet. That is not the case, not by a long shot. My morning walk is about 8k alone. If I go for a walk at lunch I'm in the 11-12k range. This is of course not counting any of the walking that I do during the day. While I might not being walking back and forth across the warehouse everyday I do a fair bit of walking back in forth in my area plus a few trips across the warehouse. On an average day I'm thinking I might be in the 15-20k steps.

180652 I'm on a weird action movie kick right now. I've started the John Wick series, I've watched Rambo Last Blood (meh), and I'm going to watch the Expendables trilogy as well. I should maybe add in Mission Impossible as well. That takes me back to my early 20's.

180652 I just finished watching the second John Wick and man these are good movies. This might sound weird but as interesting as the main story is I am super interested in world building. This secret underground society of assassins and network that was built up. I want to know more about that stuff, as well as more about John Wick. The second one definitely set up for a third movie though.

180652 Got some sleep last night and I'm feeling a bit better today. I've got a bit of a weird headache though which is not fun.

On a side note I finally got around to turning on my step counter thing on my phone. I've been meaning to do that for a while now but then I hurt myself, then vacation, and so on. Regardless, I have already clocked 7,933 steps this morning just coming to work. Now I'm not going to keep my phone on me through out the day but I will for my lunch time walk.

180652 I got a power nap at lunch so that helped. It's been a rough day though. For understandable reasons nothing was done when I was gone (it was inventory) so now I'm trying to catch up from all that plus all this new stuff flying at us that wasn't done last week because of inventory. I'm ready for another vacation already.
