Brotherband Chronicles’ the first book of the Ranger’s apprentice series by John Flanagan is a fiction about a sea adventure that is full of action. The more I read the Brotherband Chronicles the harder it is to put it down. (This review will contain spoilers you have been warned)
When you start reading the Brotherband, you find yourself in the start of a raid with Mikkel and Thorn as they are defending the ship from the defenders of the town that got to the town too late. After they scare most of them off one of the defenders throw a spear at Mikkel hitting his upper body. Mikkel falls to the ground as Thorn runs to him and then Mikkel tells Thorn to promise to protect his wife and child right before he dies. On the way back to their home town Thorn loses his right hand to save some of his crew. When Thorn gets to town he tells Mikkel’s family the news. Then Thorn “went downhill” as some would say because of the loss of his best friend and his dominate right hand he felt useless till Mikkel’s wife after a few years came up to Thorn and got him back on his feet.
The book has a good choice of words and a very subtle reason the child of Mikkel goes out to sea instead of working at the inn his mother owns. I would recommend this book for people that like lots of story other then lots of action.
