174195 I think now would be a good time to agree to disagree and understand that you both have valid and personal arguments. No need to discuss any further - your points have been made clearly, and it's ok if other people do not see the same side of things as you do, particularly in something as fraught as history and religion.

174195 dealx, I understand your point of view, and it's a valid one. Taken at face value, I totally see where you're coming from.

Nike, I appreciate your explanation of the prompt, and will include it in the weekly thread for this prompt when they get posted. We know you had good intentions when proposing the prompt, and I'd urge you to make sure you are not taking criticism of the prompt you suggested as criticism of who you are. Once out in the wild, prompts are subject to interpretation, even the types of interpretation you didn't necessarily mean.

We love a lively debate around here, especially when they are focused on the prompts and their meanings.

The mods haven't discussed it. We will likely wait a few more polls to see how many things get resubmitted and what the voting looks like for those close calls (what is a close call in some polls might not be a close call for others, just depending on how the numbers fall).

I wouldn't hesitate to resubmit a prompt you like because you're hoping for a close calls poll, is what I'm saying lol

174195 Welcome to the next Around the Year in 52 Books seasonal challenge. Our Fall challenge starts on September 1, 2024 and finishes on November 30, 2024.

We are tackling an A-Z challenge!

How It Works
For this challenge, you will be trying to fulfill the letters in ONE of three phrases:
- PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE (17)
- FAMILY GATHERING (15)
- HOT APPLE CIDER (13)

You can fulfill these letters by using the first letter of the title, the first letter of the author's first or last name, or the first letter of the main genre of the book.

Example:
- H: Happy Place by Emily Henry (Title)
- O: Masters of Death by Olivie Blake (Author's First Name)
- T: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (Author's Last Name)
- T: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (Genre: Thriller)

How to join the challenge
1. You can create a post on this thread to track your progress.

2. You can also check out the Community Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

3. If you need ideas or inspiration for any of the prompts, or you’d like to share recommendations then you can do so here.

4. When you’ve completed all of the letters for one phrase, post the details in this thread.

What books can be counted?
Generally books should be 100 pages or more, but if you’ve found the perfect book and it’s 90 pages then it’s your choice whether to count it. Or, if you’re really stuck on one task and you want to read a picture book or short story just to mark it as complete then go right ahead. The aim is to have fun and enjoy what you read, so nobody is going to judge anyone else for their book choices.

If you have any questions about the challenge then you can post them in this thread. The FAQs in post two below will also be updated as people ask questions so you might find your question has been answered there.

Happy reading, and we hope you enjoy the challenge!

174195 I just went look up the author I read for this prompt back in 2021 (S.A. Chakraborty) and her updated bio on her website says she is a white convert to Islam. So I guess that makes her Muslim, though she is not a BIPOC author.

When this prompt was voted on back in 2020, I don't think anyone was thinking about reading the religion, per se, but more about promoting authors who are historically underrepresented in the publishing world.

174195 Really excited to see the Warwick prompt back up for grabs (even if I have no hope of it actually winning). I did the 2021 list twice that year, and both books I read for that prompt were excellent.
