I thought this was an interesting mystery and enjoyed the relaxed pace. I did think there was going to be another twist at the end though. The only clue I picked up was about the bunch of keys.
Judy wrote: "I was travelling around yesterday and read a British Library Crime Classics book, The Mysterious Mr. Badman by W.F. Harvey, en route. I enjoyed the writing style a..."I have that on my tbr, it sounds good as a summer read.
I'm currently working my way through the Campion series and they are just getting better and better. I'm about to start Coroner's Pidgin next.
Also currently reading The Mystery of the Kneeling Woman. I'm so glad that Dean Street Press republiahed these Moray Dalton books.
I also enjoyed this and thought it was a well written and good mystery. I was surprised that Lawrence was Tyburn, didn't see that coming at all ! Jack was a good character and I liked his relatives too and also Ashley.
Jackie wrote: "I'm reading the 2nd in the series about China Bayles Witches' Bane which is about Halloween so that's appropriate."I used to read this series, enjoyed it very much (got up to book 11).
I like workplace/office based themes so am looking forward to the April pick, a new to me author too! And I was going to read Death on the Riviera this summer just gone but didn't get around to it so it will great to look forward to for next year.
This looks such an interesting challenge and I have a few on there that are already on my tbr lists. Thank you!
I have just finished reading this even though I bought it in January an had planned to read along!I thought it was an interesting and intriguing village mystery and I loved the characterisation, including Fear. I think the author friend at the beginning was a clever way of introducing us to the villagers before we properly met them. I had to read the first chapter again which nearly tempted me to read the whole book again!
I've recently finished two Hamish McBeth books Death of a Cad and Death of a Gossip. I like M.C Beaton's humour!Continuing with lightweight and fun I've just started The Annam Jewel by Patricia Wentworth which I'm also enjoying.
I enjoy these short story collections as long as I leave a gap between each story! My faves were Cheese (l like stories about a woman in peril with a bit of romance chucked in), The Unseen Door, The Holloway Flat Tragedy and the Avenging Chance. The Little House was good too and the Silver Mask was very creepy.
I was enjoying A Mystery of the Underground - the most Londonish story, but it ended so abruptly.
I'm reading The Word Is Murder by Anthony Horowitz - my new fave author having just read Magpie Murders & Moonflower Murders.
Jackie wrote: "I finished All The Devils Are Here and found it thrilling in a "can't put it down" kind of way. Louise Penny doesn't really write murder mysteries, though, but anyone starting the series with [book..."All The Devils Are Here was my first Louise Penny read, not realising it was a series! I enjoyed it a lot so went back to the beginning and fell for Three Pines straight away. I'm about to start the 7th [book:A Trick of the Light|10680329].
I have just finished These Names Make Clues by E.C.R. Lorac which I enjoyed a lot and am now reading Two-Way Murder - also enjoying.
Jill wrote: "I would like to read more Miss Silver . We read Grey Mask here but never went any further. Haha Maybe that should be my new year's resolution!"
I know Miss Silver is compared a lot to Miss Marple, especially with her knitting hobby, but she appeared before Miss M. I love these books and also hope to read more of them this year.
I've started The Clock Strikes Twelve by Patricia Wentworth. This is the seventh Miss Silver book and I'm trying to read them in order but I haven't read number 6 yet! The reason I skipped was that this book starts on New Year's Eve and I like reading appropriate holiday plots!!! (Also rereading The Nine Tailors - Dorothy L Sayers)
Susan in NC wrote: "Susan wrote: "Susan in NC wrote: "Which mysteries/crime books that you read with the group did you enjoy the most?I think I enjoyed the Assorted Christie’s the most - just about every book was new..."
The Allison Montclair books sound like my cup of tea too! Adding to my list - thank you!
Ooh, love these sort of threads - though my TBR list grows!Which mysteries/crime books that you read with the group did you enjoy the most?
As I've just joined the group I didn't take part though I did read The Sittaford Mystery in December (which I enjoyed apart from the rushed ending) and I also read The Cornish Coast Murder - really enjoyed this.
Which personal crime/mystery reads did you enjoy the most?
I discovered both Louise Penny and Elly Griffiths this year.
Which authors do you want to read more of?
Golden Age - Francis Duncan, E.C.R. Lorac, Clifford Witting and rereads Dorothy L Sayers and Poirot.
Contemporary - Louise Penny, Elly Griffiths, Robert Galbraith and finish Sue Grafton's series - V is for Vengeance is next.
I'd also like to start Ann Cleeves Shetland and Vera series
What were your favourite non-mystery/detective books in 2021?

Just want to say first that this is a brilliant group name!Hi, I'm Lynn from the UK. I first read Agatha Christie in my teens and love Poirot, he is a great detective! I also love Dorothy L. Sayers, Christanna Brand and the Miss Silver books by Patricia Wentworth.
I've loved discovering other golden age writers through British Library Crime and following reviews here.
I've recently read Catt Out of the Bag which was very entertaining.
Glad to have found this group!
