173974 I intend to start Cyril Hare stories tonight. As Susan says, short stories are better spread out.
Introductions. (1356 new)

173974 We also nominate, and vote for, a monthly book so you can try for more Christies there as well. Agatha is a group favorite. I certainly found many more GA to savor. Being retired (I am as well) means more time for reading.
173974 Second that. I had been making my way slowly through the series. The next book will be the first I haven't read.
173974 I've given up on my library request; I think they have lost the book. I'm off to the spoiler thread (assuming I will forget any pertinent details before I read the book, if I ever do). Based on this thread, it isn't a book I want to buy.
173974 I enjoyed this book, mostly for the relationship between Night and Bed. While the plot rambled, I never lost interest. Like others, I was very nervous about Nightingale's relationship with Stephanie Cole, and it was a sour note in an otherwise pleasant read. I hope the first two books get republished.
173974 I liked it as well even the melodramatic ending.

Bobby Owen recognized his subordinates 'yes sir' as the same reply he, Bobby, gave his superiors when he didn't agree with them.

173974 Similar problem with Maigret: The Sailor's Rendezvous is AKA The Grand Banks Café in US.

Yes, 99 cents in US.

173974 Bleeding Heart Yard is excellent and brand new. Full price in the US.
173974 I've started and like the style, the story and the two detectives. I'm not far enough along for the plot to have "gone off the tracks". I'm hoping Nightingale's wife will like her Christmas gift.

And I agree that the 'Night and Bed' nickname is less open to derision than 'David and Jonathan'.
173974 This may be one of my favorite Cadfaels and the Widow Perle one of my favorite characters. I loved how she took her kidnapper to task and worked out an arrangement acceptable to both of them. While, as Susan says, this is a mature romance with both parties being widowed, I think they are both still in their (late) twenties. Life started so much earlier then.

He really is, I love listening to Patrick Tull narrate the stories."

This one is narrated by a woman. I'm getting used to her but prefer Tull or Jacobi.

I haven't tried them nor heard of them. You should move your post to the 2022 "what are you reading" thread as that is more active.

For some odd reason there is no audio book for Silent Speaker in the Wolfe series. .... There must be a joke in there somewhere
173974 I'm listening to it now; may even finish it tonight if I stay up late enough. Cadfael is so calming.
173974 This was a reread for me and I listened to the audio book. I may not have paid close enough attention however as the details are already receding. Love the interaction between Sloan and Crosby.
173974 I have started but not too far in yet.

Welcome back Gary. I much prefer GR on my laptop!
173974 My favorites, at the time, were The Three Taps: A Detective Story Without a Moral, Tragedy at Law and The Red Thumb Mark. Now, all I remember about Red Thumb is the Holmes/Watson vibe.

My least favorites are Murder at Monk's Barn, The Three Coffins (a couple of very improbable methods in those two) and The Missing Partners, where I intensely disliked the heroine.

Christie and Sayers were rereads and, while these are very good, I feel both have written better books
173974 I've started Murder After Christmas and finding it a lot of fun.
