162142 Ohhhh, this one's been on my TBR for forever. Maybe a buddy read is just what I need to finally get to it!

162142 Hey everyone! Some people have expressed interest in sharing Instagram handles so that we can follow each other on IG. If you'd like to share your handle and make new friends on Instagram, please post here!

I'm @bookloversnest, and I post about the books we read and discuss as a group on Instagram pretty regularly. I hope you'll stop by and say hello! :)

162142 Welcome Hannah! So glad you've joined us! :)

Since people are interested in exchanging Instagram handles, I'll set up a separate thread for everyone to post in if they want to.

162142 Hey Phoebe! I'm so glad you're joining us! We have some really awesome discussions here, and I can't wait to hear more from you. If you haven't already, be sure to vote in our December book poll. :)
162142 Hi Casey,

I agree with you that Jacob is a big problem for me. As a narrator, I found him to be really bland and underdeveloped, and I agree that he seems much older than he's supposed to be (high school aged, I think). I think that he actually makes the book a bit weaker for me. Since there's not a lot to him, it's hard to be invested in his journey, his concerns, his relationships, etc. He also seems pretty wishy-washy when it comes to his family and how quickly he decides to just abandon them. That felt really off-putting to me and unbelievable.

Also, I reviewed Miss Peregrine's when it first came out! For anyone interested in reading my review, here it is:

162142 Casey, my husband said the same thing when he read it!

162142 Yeah, can't wait to read this with you ladies! I've been meaning to re-read this one for so long - the last time I read it was in high school!

162142 Hey everyone!

This is our mid-month check-in for Carry On! How is everyone doing with the book? Have you started yet? Already finished? Still waiting to start (like me!)? For those of you who have started or finished, what are some of your initial thoughts? Do you like/not like Carry On? Why?

Also, if you haven't voted in the Goodreads Choice Awards, don't forget to do so! Some awesome books have been nominated this year, including Carry On!

Happy reading!

Allison
162142 Hey everyone!

Is anyone else interested in reading the rest of the Miss Peregrine's series with Catie and me? I have to see what happens next, and we'd love you to join!

Xoxo,

Allison
162142 My Antonia is pretty short and quite good. I'd love to re-read it with you both, Jalawa and Catie!
162142 Thanks so much ladies! Glad to have you a part of our little book club. :)
162142 Hello everyone!

I hope you're having a beautiful Sunday, wherever you are! Cate and I appreciate all of you who have given feedback about this group and its format. Thank you for opening up to us and sharing your hopes and vision for this group. We are so thankful that we can have an honest discussion with all of you about how to make this group the best that it can be.

Since we are still a fairly small group, we will continue to have one official book each month, which is chosen by all of you (so don't forget to leave suggestions and vote in the polls!). Cate and I will also continue to host the ongoing buddy reads, including Middlemarch, The Diviners and Lair of Dreams, The Night Circus, and a soon-to-be-added buddy read for Miss Peregrine's for those who wish to read and discuss the rest of the series.

We recognize that not everyone will want to read whatever book is chosen each month. We want to encourage you to always keep an open mind - part of the fun of book club is reading things that are outside of your wheelhouse, and you may discover some awesome new books this way! But we also want to accommodate those of you who want to read something else.

So, if there's a runner-up from the polls or another random book that you want to read with the group, please post here! Cate or I will then create a discussion thread for you book, and you can invite other people to join you. How you organize things is totally up to you. You can do it more like a buddy read or you can have a more organized and structured discussion. Whatever you want!

We look forward to hearing what books you want to read and discuss!

Happy reading!

Allison & Cate

162142 I'll be the voice of opposition and caution against picking two books a month. I think that, if we had more users and stronger participation from everyone each month, two would be great. Then we could have multiple people running discussions and everyone could choose what they like best. We're still pretty small, though, and I think two books might lead to even less participation each month, especially with the buddy reads. Maybe we can actually add more of those for people who want more options and/or to read more. I'm planning to add one for Miss P's for those who want to read the rest of the series.

162142 Crazy right! I was reading it during a major reading slump, and it's not really one to pull you out of those!

162142 Maybe this will finally motivate me to finish!!

162142 How's everyone doing? I realized we haven't checked in in a while - who's moved onto Lair of Dreams? I still haven't started yet because of other book clubs reads, but I hope to really soon!
