I finished Red Rising and whoa, that book is pretty action-packed. I'm not sure how I feel entirely (it is similar to the Hunger Games, and I didn't care for the Hunger Games too much), but that book is just action after action after action.I'm working on The Grace of Kings right now, and so far it's pretty calm. Time will tell.
If you don't mind the web serial format, Worm has plenty of action, and the characters tend to make smart decisions. And, the characters that rise to the top aren't necessarily the superstrength/invulnerable types. It's a crazy read.
Just finished Empire in Black and Gold, and it had a lot of decent action. I definitely recommend giving it a try (but I'd check out my review first for a word of warning.)
So... The Peripheral was 2/3 confusing, and 3% action. I don't know what to think of it, but don't go looking for action there.
The Rookie was definitely action-packed. And in a very different way than I normally find. The overwhelming majority of the action is sports action.I liked it a lot, in part because I listened to it and the audio production is insanely good. They have the crowd noises, announcers, and sports talk radio.
Definitely recommend.
Seventh Son had no action to speak of. A lot of people at my book club really enjoyed it, but I'm kind of meh about it. Just too slow for my liking.
Oh, I should mention, I'm listening to The Rookie audiobook. It's by Scott Sigler. It's been recommended to me several times, and I like it so far. It's not been super-action-packed, since it's in the middle of info-dump right now. I hope this set up leads to more action, though. I haven't read too many entertainment sports-themed books. I'm hoping this will be a good one.
Bradly wrote: "I haven't read the first three--I've seen the first three seasons of Game of Thrones on HBO, and I bought the fourth book to kind of read ahead."I haven't read the series or watched the show. Is each book the equivalent of one season? How is it going making the transition between show to book?
Seventh Son has no action whatsoever thus far, but it's an easy read. Kind of boring. Some people at book club rave over it. I guess I'll see if it gets any more exciting, since I have maybe 30-40% left until I'm finished.
Kind of stalling on The Black Company. Picked up Seventh Son for my local book club. It doesn't look any kind of action-packed, but I'll post here if it is.
Just wondering how you found us. I made the group for action-book lovers, so that's how I got here. What about you?
Thanks Natasha. I'll check out Robopocalypse right now.I've read The Black Prism, and I'll add it to the shelf right now. I remember it being hilarious. Maybe a re-read is in order, especially now that the third book is out.
I'm about to start The Black Company, this month's r/fantasy book club read.I'll post if it's action-packed.
I'll start the self-promotion here:Apex Rising is a sword-and-sorcery popcorn fantasy full of action. It takes place in medieval Africa, featuring animal familiars. It's available on every major e-book retailer.
The State is action from beginning to end. Set in future Austin, TX, where the government controls its populace through a sophisticated drug. A small resistance battles the state on every hand, but can they stand against the state's overwhelming military might? Also available on every major e-book retailer.
You are welcome to post your own books here as a recommendation.HOWEVER.
This group is all about action. If your book isn't action-packed, this really isn't the group for it. You'll probably get negative reviews by not meeting expectations set in this group.
Take a look at the group bookshelf. If your book is as action-packed as those, then you should post it here.
Can't wait to see what you have in store for us!
Hi Neil,Thanks for the recommendation. Are your books as action-packed as Jim Butcher's Codex Alera? The books on the bookshelf in this group are pretty much the standard I'm judging against.
I don't want to give you a negative rating and review on your books if I'm disappointed in my expectations, so I'd like to make sure my expectations are set clearly.
Thanks,
Tom
