155170 Danielle I don't understand what you mean by a combination of both. Do you mean Wednesday is a combination of both Wednesdays?

Ryan Odin wasn't a fictional deity people really did believe in him before. People used to believe in all kinds of gods back in the day. I think if Wednesday hadn't done what he did everyone would have gotten along just fine. After all the old gods and the really old gods got along so why wouldn't the American gods get along too?

155170 I understand what you are saying I think Jordan but I don't agree lol! Thats ok!

I might watch the show but I only have Netflix. Will you?

Welcome to the club, Ryan!

155170 Danielle do you think that Wednesday was really cruel or that we just didnt understand his culture? He is the God of vikings and they would murder you for a loaf of bread. Maybe its just normal for him to kill people whenever he wants lol.

I liked Shadow. I thought he was a good character and he had the most sense of them all. He was really just trying to be a good guy but I liked the Zorya sisters the best. I want to know more about them! What did you think Danielle? I have never been to a chichis are they good?

Jordan I dont think shadow was bland! Lol! He had such an ordeal! I didn't know what to make of the two Wednesdays though.

When does the show start?

155170 Jordan I do like star wars lol!

Danielle why do you think the man in black didnt kill Roland? Since he sat there fetting older (and even animals didnt kill him) How did he eat? Why did the man in black die ifnhe was so powerful like that?

155170 Mike when you started this book what made you decide to keep reading?

Jordan I like your comparison to Luke Skywalker! Roland is very different although they both have hand problems!! LOL! Lukes is missing!

Danielle what about the last half of the book was most interesting to you?

I think Roland was a dick for letting jake die but I guess he feels he must make sacrifices. Like spock said "The need of the many outweighs the needs of a few."

155170 Danielle this book was defiantly not horror! I wasnt sure what to expect either but I liked it. I felt like I was reading a western not some epic horror novel!

Welcome back Garret! You have read this 3 times?! lol you must really love it! Do you read the whole series 3 times or just this book?

Jordan do you think that Roland has a learning disability?

155170 OMG! I just started reading the book. I found the copy on inter-library loans!! I guess I will have to join Danielle in the other threat!

Im still excited about this book too because everyone tells me it is a great series lol

155170 Duh! I was being sarcastic lol
Oct 26, 2016 06:57PM

155170 Jordan I can't tell if you are serious or not but isn't racism always bad?
Oct 26, 2016 06:34PM

155170 Mike lives! Wooooo lol!

Mike are you being racist now with the Irish comment? First Jordan now you haha. I didn't even realize he was Irish because there wasn't enough drinking lol!
Oct 25, 2016 04:21PM

155170 Greasy! Is that racist?

So Oscar and Upton could have met. OMG did Oscar have a bad life at the end! What a bunch of crazy laws they had in England then.

Did anyone else read it or just us?

Have any of you heard of a comic called "The League of Extraordinary Gentleman" ?
Oct 19, 2016 10:42PM

155170 Danielle I agree with your interpretation but I do think some of the characters were likeable. Basil was one that comes to mind. He is just a guy who likes to paint and found a guy who is particularly photogenic or paintogenic! Lol! He is a good guy who doesn't like corruption and all the bad influence of characters like Lord Henry. In the very start of the book he yells at Lord Henry to not corrupt little Dorian.

Jordan I don't know Jersey Shore. What is it about? I totally didn't catch that about The Jungle!! Do you think Oscar Wild and Upton Sinclair knew one another?

Emma hello! Good book choice! I am glad you joined our club. I was a freshman not too long ago and I know how crazy it gets. My problem was always keeping up with the homework. I felt like I could never get on top of it. What is your degree in? College is important! This book club can wait lol!

155170 Danielle I think Jargis did that later in his career but at first he was arrogant and horrible. He was the whole reason thing sped up.

Here is the part of the book that made me think that

"This was called "speeding up the gang," and if any man could not keep up with the pace, there were hundreds outside begging to try.
Yet Jurgis did not mind it; he rather enjoyed it. It saved him the necessity of flinging his arms about and fidgeting as he did in most work. "

later on he seemed like he was just trying to tie ends to meet but at first he loved being the best and didn't care about making everyone else look stupid

155170 Danielle Jargus also was the one who kept speeding up the work line and making it harder for everyone else. He just seemed totally wrapped up in his head, what he wanted was the only thing that mattered and everything else was not worth considering. Even at the end when the communists came around and started holding those meetings and stuff he just wanted a place to hang out and sleep but then when it served him he got interested in their thoughts. I don't know I guess he just reminds me of some people I have met and didnt like! Lol!

Jordan I am glad you found it funny but why do you disagree with me?

Mike did you get to finish the book or was it too depressing?
Aug 08, 2016 04:43PM

155170 Jordan this book was totally gross!! I couldn't even eat after read certain parts lol! I think the wedding stuff was sad knowing how it all turned out. It did feel like a fun little story st first but then got really depressing.

I hated the main character lol he was such an asshole to his family! I didn't like him from the moment they introduced him and he kept flexing his arms and making fun of people. He is a total jock! Lol I don't think he ever even played a sport or went to school since he couldn't even read but he was the first jock ever lol.

I thought the most disgusting part of the book was when the guy fell into the vat and died and they just cooked him up in the sausae. What was yours?
Book 17 (13 new)
Jul 20, 2016 09:45AM

155170 That works for me! I almost had to read this in school but I chose Animal Farm instead lol
155170 Jordan I don't like sci-fi! I just never got into it! Mike never posted and it was his book! LOL!! Wasn't Jesus kinda innocent? I thought that was the whole idea that he wasn't bad but had to die anyhow because

I laughed too but not much. I think I have a hard time with old books maybe because English is my second language.
155170 I had a hard time finishing this book too lol! I didn't dislike it but I was happy when I finished it. The second story was my favorite because it was the least sci-fi and could have been set 300 years ago. The last story was my least favorite too lol

I liked the character of the wanderer, or hobo as Jordan called him, but I didn't catch the part of him in the last story. Was he supposed to be the two headed lady? What was she anyhow? Jesus?
Apr 25, 2016 09:23AM

155170 I liked the book but it was hard to follow lol. It seemed kinda racist to me too but I guess thats just how things were back then. I thought the whole book was stories about Mowgli and I kept waiting for him to show up in the other stores but he never did.

I will eventually read the sequel "The Second Jungle Book" but probably not until next year or two.

Has anyone seen the new movie? People keep telling me its good!

155170 Garret you are right! I went back and checked and I guess I just spaced on that first page lol
