Fun With Typos (117 new)
May 16, 2018 07:54AM

154447 One more fresh example, even though this one is the exact opposite.

My sentence: "...a runic circle he would explore later."
Grammarly: did you mean "explode later"?
Me: hell no!
Fun With Typos (117 new)

154447 I've heard of someone whose phone autocorrected "Harry Potter" to "happy router".

My own typos are usually just letter swaps, in some rarer cases mix-ups of phrases. What I had happen to me is that I knew that somewhere 2/3 through my draft was a mistake I went to correct (I was reading it in PDF). I opened the word file and started scrolling furiously to reach that passage.
At that time, most names were not yet final or even outright placeholders, so they were not present in custom dictionary. Somewhere half-way through, word gave me something like "This text contains too many errors" and turned off the underlining of errors, leaving me to find a way to re-enable it and finally forcing me to add at least the few final names to the dictionary.
Novel length (131 new)

154447 When I started even thinking about writing, I found myself having no idea how long it could be. I still had no idea when I actually started writing. I kept going on with the story, the count kept on growing.

13 months later, it stopped dangerously close to the 250k mark. After cutting some unnecessary scenes (and adding new ones too), I got to ~225k in my current draft. I guess that for fantasy it's slightly more tolerable than some other genres, yet it scared me.

What gives me hope is that I was reading one self-published fantasy that was on the longer end (around 650 pages) and it was really well done.

154447 I don't always listen to music when I write, but there are some types for when I do.

1) Folk or Movie/Game soundtrack as silent ambient music. Easy to find playlist or 1hr+ compilations on youtube.
2) Metal for battle scenes
3) Gothic metal for slow or gloomy parts.

Truth is that if I really get all in to a writing, I realize shortly after that I filtered the music out anyway, especially if it's writing a first draft of a chapter when I am mashing it out while the creativity is there. Probably less when rewriting which is not as fluid as I have to keep in mind what's before, in and after the scene I am editing.

154447 1. Tomas K. in reality, planning to assume the pseudonym "Tomas K. Grizzly"
2. Reading is mostly fantasy (especially epic/sword and sorcery) or sci-fi. Writing fantasy.
3. My debut is in (hopefully) last pre-beta draft, still under the working title "Project Eternity book one" even though I am close to final name. Current ETA probably Q1/2019.
4. I like hiking the hills, often alone, and consider the grizzly bear my spirit animal, hence the pseudonym. Also, if it came to that, my quality of singing would be equal to that of a bear as well.
