Changed my option on unreliable narrator for "Room" because it featured a half-wit 5 year old talking about his penis going up and down, and I was done. And someone stole my backpack out of my car with Smonk, so I'll have to shelve that one for later (Bunch of savages in this town!)Anyway,
BOOK THAT'S BEEN ON YOUR TO READ LIST FOR OVER A YEAR: Profiles in Courage (Pulitzer Prize book "written" by John F. Kennedy offered instances of senatorial courage throughout American history. Although I disagree about the senator who voted not to impeach Andrew Johnson. Dude let the South get away with too many shenanigans.)
SOUTHERN MYSTERY: Rusty Puppy (Big improvement over the last entry in my favorite redneck duo series. The asinine cliffhanger at the end of the last book is thankfully resolved quickly, and introduces a smart ass "600 year old vampire midget" kid to the series.)
That "Coup" book was quite entertaining. Never knew Ray Blanton was such a degenerate drunk! For March, I think I'll go with:
SOUTHERN GOTHIC: Smonk (From what I've gathered, it looks to ape Cormack McCarthy, except with even more depraved characters.)
UNRELIABLE NARRATOR: Room (Ha ha. What a story!)
Book Adapted into a 2017 Movie: Wolverine: Old Man Logan (Featuring Wolverine as a PTSD surviving farmer fetching money for the Hulk's hillbilly, mutant family across an America ruled by various Marvel villains. I don't know if the movie "Logan" is this weird, but I sure hope it is!)Book Set in Tennessee: Coup: The Day the Democrats Ousted Their Governor, Put Republican Lamar Alexander in Office Early, and Stopped a Pardon Scandal (Working on this one. Tennessee has a rich history of corrupt, redneck governors, so this should be a good read.)
Looks like it was misprinted in the first post with two Civil War categories. One category is Civil War and the other civil rights.
Contemporary Southern book: The Liberal Redneck Manifesto: Draggin' Dixie Outta the Dark (Funny cultural overview of the South, and highly informative! Its footnote description of Jagermeister still makes me chuckle.)Book with a rating of 4.5 stars or higher on Goodreads: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (FINALLY finished this series after 17 years or so, though I was hung up on the first book for most of that time.)
Series ranking:
1. Prisoner of Azkaban (Sirius Black is my boy.)
2. Half-Blood Prince (Mostly for the Voldemort backstory.)
3. Goblet of Fire (First "dark" book in the series, though a little too long.)
4. Deathly Hallows (Satisfying ending to the series, especially Snape's arc. The forest sections were a bit draggy.)
5. Order of the Phoenix (Too long and Harry is annoyingly whiny. Plus, Dolores Umbridge is just so unpleasant.)
6. Chamber of Secrets (The first two are pretty mediocre, but this was slightly more engaging than the first.)
7. Sorcerer's Stone (Too episodic and lacking the intrigue of the later books.)
Pretty sure Lewis Carroll and these artists used the same substances when they created their art.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WANNq...
WESTERN: Paradise Sky (Great fictionalized account of Nat Love aka Deadwood Dick. Loved seeing Calamity Jane and others again.)BOOK EVERYONE HAS READ BUT YOU: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Enjoying this more than the somewhat clunky Order of the Phoenix, especially Voldemort's backstory.)
YEAR'S "IT" BOOK: White Trash: The 400-Year Untold History of Class in America (Should be a good book about my people.)
FAIRY TALE RETELLING: A Tale Dark & Grimm(Last priority, but it looks pretty funny and sarcastic like Princess Bride.)
1, Picture Book: Wytches, Volume 1 (Adequately disturbing horror graphic novel)2. Food Book Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes (Pete craves cupcakes, loses cupcakes, probably engages in quasi-legal substances, and solves the mystery of who takes his cupcakes. Riveting!)
3. Thankful Book Nothing Lasts Forever (The book that gave us Die Hard: the Citizen Kane of Die Hard movies. For this, I am thankful.)
4. Book Learned from Challenge A Man Called Ove (Sunday book club lean fill in, and a book about my spirit animal: a grumpy old man.)
October is Halloween. We're all entitled to one good scare, aka crappy books! And while the juggalo book looked intriguing, it's a Kindle exclusive and I can't find my Kindle. :(

1. BOOK WITH A LION, WITCH, OR WARDROBE: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Same caliber as the 1st book. The series seems to find its footing in the 3rd book.)2. BOOK ABOUT AN EVIL PERSON: Nixon's First Cover-up: The Religious Life of a Quaker President (A little too esoteric in its coverage of Quakerism, but still a pretty good book on an unexplored facet of Nixon.)
3. BOOK FROM RORY GILMORE READING CHALLENGE: High Fidelity (Good tale about music/ pop culture nerd's failed romances. Completely un-relatable, of course!)
4. BOOK FROM LEAST FAVORITE GENRE (AMISH ROMANCE): The Stubborn Father (How have I neglected this genre!? Millionaire Amish patriarch Dwight Schrute [where an Amish gets millions of dollars is anyone's guess] builds a tree house in honor of his dead wife, gripes about his heathen son, and enjoys the company of his deaf sister and middle-aged children. Can't wait to see how he's resurrected after being struck by lightning!)
Finished yesterday.BLUE COVER: Eccentric Orbits: The Iridium Story (Surprisingly entertaining book about the death and life of a satellite system. Bloom excels at deriving amusement from the absurdities in life.)
BANNED BOOK: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Only took 16 years to finish. I think the illustrated edition with the purdy pictures made it easier.)
HERO: Captain Marvel (Marvel NOW!) #1 (Generic comic graphic novel with some fun cameos by the Guardians of the Galaxy)
SOUTHERN AUTHOR: Bad Monkey (The "heroic" character is reprimanded for sodomizing a plastic surgeon with a common household appliance. I think I like Hiaasen.)
Preliminary plan...1. A book from your least favorite genre: (Amish romance) The Stubborn Father (Dude on the cover looks like Dwight Schrute, which may engender some amusement.)
2. A book about an evil person: 7 Days In Ohio: Trump, The Gathering Of The Juggalos And The Summer Everything Went Insane (Trump AND Juggalos!)
3. A book with a lion, a witch, or a wardrobe: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (The first one only took over 16 years to complete, so here's hoping this one goes faster.)
4. A book from the Rory Gilmore challenge: High Fidelity

Proof if exists doesn't equal proof that it's not made up ;)"
How DARE you question this man's integrity! Do YOU volunteer to help jungle children?
