15336 Seriously, I am SO the wrong person to ask about that...

15336 I believe I have about a metric ton of greens in my garden, so I'm going to pick them, put them in paper bags, and hope they make it. Hope at least one of you likes kale and knows what the heck to do with it!

15336 So... Patty asked about this thing I've never heard of called swimmer's itch, which I have TOTALLY had but had no idea actually had a name This, from Marla:

"Yes, swimmer’s itch does exist in Minnesota. I have not gotten any reports of it in our lake, however. It is fairly easy to avoid. There are two things you should do – stay out of the weeds and towel off briskly when you come out of the water.

We have a ‘nature lake’, which means that it has no beach area and the edge is surrounded with cattails. We have a swim dock out in the lake for swimming. It is probably 18’ deep there with clear water so you should not have a problem encountering any weeds if you take a canoe or boat out to it.

Also, if you want to use the washer and dryer, it is available. Just in case you want to because you have used your towels for swimming and then want them for toweling off after showering."

I watched the film about a month ago and it was AMAZING. Totally want to read the book.

15336 Alan and I are driving together and arrive Monday afternoon. We can help out, in a pinch, though we are driving 8 hours up so it would be nice to just chill out with everyone. :)

15336 From Marla... I will delete this once we get all checked in so that we don't leave security info up here.

Shelby,

There is a lock box on the front door. The code is 7740. That will get you the key for the deadbolt. If she forgets the number, it is the last four digits of the house number which is on a sign by the mail box.

I’d be more than happy to answer any more questions Kerry may have. Otherwise, we will have the a/c on and everything should be ready. I know many of you are traveling internationally. We do have some bath towels available so you won’t have to pack them. How many do you expect you may need? We can make sure we have enough available.

The hot water is by demand only. It warms up a little slower than usual and cools off faster. However, you should never run out no matter how many showers you want to take.

We are gearing up for the weekend as well as your stay!

15336 emailing now.

And I haven't heard of anyone arriving earlier than 9 pm Sunday since I asked about it a couple of weeks ago.

15336 I'm going to give them your name, Kerry. If that's ok. :)
15336 It's ok, Kerry. Oddly, my children look a helluva lot like me and I am STILL referred to as their nanny on occasion. :)

15336 Quimby's in Chicago, hands down.

15336 STRIKE The Oxbow Incident. Because I hated it in high school. :)

10th or 11thing on Deadwood. :)

15336 Elizabeth, my impression of Pynchon is that he is VERY into himself (like, ahem, an author in another thread I just commented on) but that he believes himself to be roughly 1002 times more clever.

Which he may be. But clever doesn't generally win me over...

15336 Hm. In my experience this is the off-putting part of his work.

I mean, I get the description. I may even have been there myself.

But it just... repels me.

I haven't read this one, but this is my overall impression of his take on women as, essentially, vessels for the narrator's authority and personage. It makes me a little sick.

Ice on toast? No, everyone is just on vacation. :)

15336 You KNOW JE is excited about the "craft" supplies.

And Patty told me she is totally psyched about the chapel.

So, yes, they have weddings there. In case you were wondering.

15336 There is room. IGNORE JE about the giraffe shirt... he can't get it off over his skipper hat, anyway...
15336 His cock, like that
of a crop-gobbling dokey from Priene, overflowed.

- Archilochus

THAT is freaking AWESOME.

Eros, that slackener of limbs, twirls me again --
bittersweet, untameable, crawling thing.

- Sappho

That's awesome too. :)

15336 My daughter was learning ASL in school when she was 4. We remember how to say who wants to help, and "boring."

I remember boring because it amuses me. Not without a sense of humor, that language.
