147920 #1 The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood - 2/5

I didn't like it at all. Sorry if I am sounding grumpy, but lately having read so many great books I hate having wasted my time on this one. I actually planned to read this one for last month's dystopian genre, but couldn't do it, so including it in this month's challenge.

I have a lot more to say about this book and I have laid it all out in my review. You can read it here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I thought it was 2018... wow, it's been a while since you read it. I'm surprised how clearly I remembered your recommendation even after 2 and a half years! Lol.

Yes, every other fiction genre except for historical :)

Even I started to notice his name when everyone on my Goodreads timeline started reading and raving about Dark Matter. But I guess when you recommended it after having read it last year (?) I made a mental note to check it out. So for me, it was you (again!) Thanks for that :)

147920 Hi, everyone. Here's the thread for the month of August: Contemporary Fiction - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

147920 August is here and finally we have a genre that makes it easy for everyone to participate - Contemporary Fiction. As always, you can join anytime during the entire month and read as many (or as less) books as you can manage, no restrictions whatsoever!

If you are a contemporary fiction reader then we request you to please recommend some awesome books to other members. Others, please feel free to ask for suggestions and recs. Reviews of books are greatly appreciated and we are okay with anyone posting relevant links too.

There are absolutely no limits so you can interpret this genre in its broader sense and include other similar genres and/or subgenres that you feel might have a wee bit of similarity with the main genre. You can also include books that are not particularly centred around the main genre but has its components or elements somewhere in the story.

The main intent of this challenge is to incorporate different kinds of books and genres in our normal reading routine to make the experience more fun and entertaining. Please do not lose yourself in the technicalities as we all know how literary genres can be confusing.
If you have any doubts or questions, then post them below and we'll be happy to answer/discuss them.

Here are the DEFINITION for this month's genre:

Contemporary Fiction Contemporary Fiction is literature with its setting generally after World War II. We're doing Contemporary Fiction, so everything post-WWII is counted except for non-fiction.
So yes, almost everything you read is Contemporary Fiction unless it is Historical Fiction or Non-Fiction.

Here's a quick summary of the levels:

Level 1: Casual Reader: 1 book (easy)
Level 2: Frequent Reader: 2 books (moderate)
Level 3: Bookworm: 3 books (mildly strenuous)
Level 4: Bibliophile: 4 books (strenuous)
Level 5: Bookiopath: 5 books or more (challenging)

Please mention what type of books you'd be reading:

PB: Paperbacks
HB: Hardbacks
EB: E-Books
AB: Audio Books

Please feel free to announce your to-read books along with the level you are targeting for below. Though it is not necessary as you can announce your reads as and when you decide or read them.

PLEASE READ (especially new members):
1. You can read any number of books for the respective genre every month.
2. You can join the challenge at any stage (in any month.)
3. You can drop out of the challenge any time you like.
4. You can select different levels every month.
5. Use this discussion board to share your reads with other members of the group.
6. Please be active and don't hesitate to ask questions or recommend books.
7. You can couple this challenge with any other challenge here (or anywhere else.) We all do it and it makes it all the more fun!

Happy reading!

Nope, I just couldn't!! OMG, Dagny... I just finished Dark Matter and it was totally and utterly amazing! I am so running out of words to describe how good Blake Crouch's books are!! I am so surprised I am only reading them now! I mean there are so many of his books already released.
I think I seriously need a break from reading now otherwise I'll have a mental breakdown because of his awesomeness! I think I'm developing a reader-crush on him :D

147920 #3 Wayward (Wayward Pines #2) and #4 The Last Town (Wayward Pines #3) by Blake Crouch

I can't believe I finally discovered an author who writes mind-blowing speculative fiction! And more than than I can't believe I started an finished a trilogy when I should have been writing and completing my own book... :O!!
I can't say anything about what this series is about because saying anything would be a spoiler. Just a little advice though for anyone who wants to read this trilogy - DO NOT read the reviews for this book before you read it because it can spoil the entire story for you. Just start with the series straight away. It is superb and if you already like some other Blake Crouch book then you're obviously gonna love it, though then you might not be completely surprised by the big reveal in the first part of the series.
But if you haven't read nay Blake Crouch book and starting fresh with this one (like me) then you are in for some serious thrills and chills!!!!!
