it's an alternate history set in the Nepoleanic war era, and dragons are the airforce. The story is centered around an English navy captain and a dragon. Very good series, I like it alot because it brings a completely fresh perspective into dragon lore fantasy. I strongly recommend it, pick up a copy of His Majesty's Dragon which is the first book in the series, you wont be disappointed, I promise :)

yeah, i know. I think we are all waiting patiently for some news as to the release date. I'm also waiting for Naomi Novik's next book in the Temeraire series to come out. If you like dragons check it out

he is writing the fourth and final book, what is confusing some people is that he intended it to be a three book series but decided to split the third book into two books because one book would have been way too long. i am just looking to see when its coming out

no, he didnt have a choice, Eragon gave him what he thought to be a choice, but it wasn't much of a choice. Thats like saying if an armed gunman enters a store and holds the barrel against the tellers head, she has the the choice to refuse his demands. Sure, she has a choice as long as she doesn't value her life. Same with Murtaugh. We seen how Galbatorix can project himself into Murtaugh's thoughts and speak through him, that doesn' give Murtaugh much room to free himself. And I think you need to understand the depth Murtaugh's despair and helplessness to understand his sneer and his demeanor. It easy to misjudge him, its harder to understand him. I think by the end of the series Murtaugh will find the strength to break his chains, but either way it'll make for a good story lol ;)

Murtaugh isn't evil, he is being controlled by the king. I don't think we can consider him evi, not when his free will has been taken away from him. He is a victim more than anything.

the movie was terrible, if you didnt already read the book it would be very hard to follow much of it. Thats why i prefer to read the book rather than wait for the movie lol. If the finish make the rest of the series into film we can only hope they do it right and do justice to the novels. One thing for example, Sapphire is a main character who engages in much conversation with other central characters through thought, if you make a movie and cut out her voice and conversation, you are removing a necessary and main part of the story. I also agee, characters need to be true to their race, they can't look human and be elves and dwarves.

This has been a reat series so far, and I'm sure book four will not dissappoint. The next rider really isn't gonna play much into the book, they would have to retreave the egg, allow the dragon to mature, and train the new rider in a relatively fast pace. Unless Arya is the new rider I don't see much hope of that prospect (of course I won't be dissappointed if I'm wrong) I've seen some talk of Orik as a new rider, that would be a twist being dwarves where not included but I don't think it will likely happen. I think the defeat of Galbatorix will depend on if all of the dragon "heart of hearts" that he has obtained can be set free or destroyed. I am suprised Paolini is planning to finish the series in one last book. Between the last egg hatching, the end of Galbatorix, Oromis's fate, Murtaugh's fate, Roran's fate, the prophecy of Eragon leaving Aeleagesia. So much has to be decided yet and it will be an impressive feat if Paolini does it in one last novel
