Death in Berlin by M.M. Kaye
I read all of the Death in....series back in the 80s and am slowly rereading them. This one was a whodunit and it did have some good twists and red herrings so kept me guessing. But I didn't warm to the heroine at all. So 3 stars.

The Night of Fear by Moray Dalton
This was a very enjoyable country house murder mystery, good characters and an intriguing case.

book #5 Bramton Wick by Elizabeth Fair
I squeezed another one in and finished this last week. First time reading Elizabeth Fair and I enjoyed this gentle and witty story of post war village life. Will certainly read more by this author.

book #4 Happy All the Time by Laurie Colwin
I love this book and wish I had read it when it was first published. I don't know why I waited so long, Thank you to the person who nominated it on here and gave me that push to finally read it!

1. The Road to Lichfield byPenelope Lively
2. Nightingale Wood by Stella Gibbons
3. The Summer Book by Tove Jansson
4. A Winter Away by Elizabeth Fair
5. Death in Berlin by M.M. Kaye

But do understand if they are not considered retro.

Oh, I've just realised that I've read two in August - not realising they were in the Pool !!
#2 The Woods in Winter
I loved this book and gave it 5 stars...."
I had only ever read Cold Comfort before but Woods was a wonderful surprise, I love SG's writing.

#2 The Woods in Winter
I loved this book and gave it 5 stars. It set me off on reading more Stella Gibbons.
#3 They Came to Baghdad
I've read this many times, it's a real comfort read, fun and entertaining.

I'm on board at last with #1 Death in the Andamans
I've read this before, back in the 80s and enjoyed reading it again. I think M.M. Kaye's descriptions of the settings are so vivid and the mystery was good too.

I'm going to start with Demelza as Ross Poldark was one of my favourite reads last year."
Thank you for setting me up and I'm going to start with Demelza too. I love the Poldark books.

I would love to join the Book Pool - I know I can't nominate but there are lots of interesting books there that I'd like to join in and read.
