I accept that it should start somewhere. I don't deny that it causes pollution. But what I'm trying to tell you is that shoving something down the people's throats never worked so far and it never will. Instead of doing that, I wish the Government focuses on scrapping old vehicles, prohibiting factories which emit poisonous gases, and also cause sound pollution.

And above all, my question is : Why is bursting crackers a problem in India alone? People burst crackers all over the world. Even governments burst crackers all over the world, including India. US celebrates it's Independence Day and Memorial Day and many such days with crackers only, right?

As a gesture in the right direction, I think the Government should give up bursting crackers on the occasions like Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and also many such events.. And I also think that whichever celebrity who preaches people to not burst crackers should start it himself..

On second thoughts, This was never an issue earlier when we didn't have so much of social presence. And I think there is a religious angle to it too. Have you ever seen any such controversy against festivals on any religion, except Hinduism? Can anyone ask Muslims to not eat/sacrifice beef on Bakrid?

I think it should be an individual decision. Campaigning against crackers on the basis of pollution isn't a good idea. There's only so much pollution it can cause on a single day. The Supreme Court of India banned the sale of crackers in New Delhi. My question is why didn't it impose more stringent regulations on the manufacture of fuel consuming vehicles?

I'm all for celebrations in whichever way they want. But I just hope people try not to use crackers which cause sound pollution as there maybe many patients in every corner of the city.
