128924 Ian, I like alone as well, love to cook and bake, and just do the "big" cooking when I have people for dinner. Which a do a lot!

128924 I'll start the thread on Room With a Clue Wednesday-ish, or so. Keep me posted on whether you have the book or not. Though my local library can get almost anything, they didn't have this one, so I sprang for the $3.99 and got it on my Kindle.

128924 Wow, so much on the food business, in the last few days! And I am certainly in for that! I am not a coffee drinker, but I love my tea. I use Twinings most of the time as well, Ian. We have lots of their varieties here in the US as well. I've had both Lord and Lady Grey as well. (I'm a little partial to Lady Grey, but I like them both.) I tried Spotted Dick once, though it was from a can, and it was just awful. I suppose made properly, it wouldn't be. And clotted cream, well, you had me a "cream".

128924 I will host the discussion, if you all agree.
128924 Welcome, William!

128924 I'm not sure where the poll is, but I vote Room With a Clue.

128924 My copy from the library had a label stating "Teen Fiction" on the spine. It seemed appropriate for older teens at best. Some pretty graphic fights and injuries, I thought. But perhaps teens are used to that nowadays.

128924 I've watched Les Petits... and found them, uh, interesting. Truly nothing at all like Christie in terms of characters, but using her plots in a completely different way. I have the DVDs of season 1 and 2 and have watched all of 1 and part of 2.

128924 Yeah, I forgot to mention the Chapter 13 business! Interesting.

128924 Welcome, Ian! I am inclined to Room With A Clue. We've read some of the Kingsbury Christmas books over the years and enjoyed them.

128924 Interesting ending, and I'm glad Cane was able to recover and start life anew. I suppose I should be glad that I caught early on that the Commissioner was was murderer, but the clue about the metal shoes was pretty blatant. Anyone else catch this?

128924 Enjoyable, and certainly not something I would normally have chosen to read. I'm afraid I'm not much into this sort of mystery.

128924 Well, I'm into this last section, about three or four chapters and it is getting weird! Everyone is hearing these cries? Now the police are gathered all together? What's going to happen??

128924 I finished this section and am into the next...

128924 Me either, Tina. What is Steam punk?

128924 I am through chapter 20 and so almost done with this section. Still enjoyable. I think it is the commissioner. He has metal on his legs and the footprints found indicate that. This seems almost too obvious, so perhaps there is a catch...
128924 I just finished this first section last night and am ready to move on. This seems to be a nice blend of strange and a more normal detective story. I do hope that Abigail gets a nice, black notebook that the cover flips over the top, like she really, really wants!
128924 I'll have to think about that...
128924 I'm reading further and almost done with this first section. I am really liking this book. The writing is clean and brisk, and the characters are quite interesting. Somehow, I am picturing Jackaby being played in a movie by the actor Eddie Redmayne. Young, thin, with a good looking but angular face, attired in those eccentric clothes. I'm also enjoying the fact that Jackaby and Abigail are getting along pretty well, at least at this point. And Charlie appears to be a possible romantic interest for Abigail.

128924 Good plan, Allison. I especially like The Nine Tailors, but I skip the long passages about bell ringing!
