That said, I just came home with a new cosy, autumnal read from my local supermarket — The House Witch by Delemhach (Emily Nikota).
It’s about Finlay, a house witch whose quiet life in the royal kitchens gets tangled up in court intrigue, secrets, and a touch of romance. I can’t wait to dive in! 🍂✨

Why can I so easily imagine you casually wandering out of your house and padding into the library in your pyjamas, slippers, and coffee in hand — giving the librarian a little wave (who’s long since accepted you as a permanent fixture) — before thumbing a book off the shelf and making yourself at home in a beanbag? ☕📚

Gotta call someone… put it off.
Gotta travel more than 15 minutes… put it off.
Gotta go to an in-person appointment… put it off.
And yet 9 times out of 10, it’s never as bad as I’ve built it up to be in my head — doesn’t stop the overthinking though!
Yay for brain overloads 🤯

I adore rummaging around charity shops and thrift stores for second-hand gems.
So, what’s your best find? An impulse buy that led you somewhere you never expected?
A hidden gem that’s now a firm favourite?
A library loan that had you buying your own copy?
For me, I recently discovered that HomeSense UK sells discounted books fresh off the printer 📚.
While perusing their shelves, I spotted Oblivion by Jennifer L. Armentrout. At only £3.99, I couldn’t resist and impulse-bought a hidden gem — only to return and find the rest of the five-part series scattered across the shelves. Purchasing the lot for less than £20 rather than the £50 RRP, I could have done a happy dance in the middle of the store… didn’t, but could have 💃
There’s a small catch, though: the books are discounted because of very minor printing errors that you can easily overlook. Where major bookstores might turn their noses up, I ran straight in, finding nothing but joy!

Everything looks a bit tired, the book selection isn’t great, and it just isn’t a nice place to be. There’s nothing I’d love more than a thriving, bright, welcoming library with plenty of choice to spend my time in again… a gal can dream ☁️📚 …or up sticks and move again 😆

You know where the car keys are — you’re an adult. Go get what you want… and bring me back a coffee and a sweet treat while you’re at it ☕🍰

I find myself hovering, anxiety fizzing away and making it impossible to sit still. Then there’s the pressure of remembering to be courteous — offering something to drink, checking if they need anything.
And don’t get me started on the work-related chat… I don’t need to know what’s being done, just pop it on the invoice and be on your way, please!
Not that I’m not thankful — I just want my safe space back! 😅

Can’t say I’m anywhere near as prepared as you, @Jeni — your dedication to the vampire theme is seriously impressive! 🦇

Believe it or not, I haven’t actually read the Harry Potter series, but I’m tempted to give it another go. I tried reading them when they first got hyped up as a kid, but I didn’t quite gel with them. Perhaps I’ll have better luck as an adult ☺️
I’ve not heard of your other titles, but I’ll be sure to look them up!

What are your top three “stranded on a desert island” book choices? 🏝️
Mine would be:
• Never Let Me Go — Kazuo Ishiguro
• The Time Traveller’s Wife — Audrey Niffenegger
• The Beach — Alex Garland

@Drew of course I’ll pop a review up for Song of the Abyss once I’ve read it ☺️ I adored Whispers of the Deep, so I’m really looking forward to the second instalment 🤩
I try to keep my physical TBR to no more than ten books at a time, and I read only from that selection—so Quicksilver will definitely be read this year. It’s the only way to rein me in 😅 That, and avoiding Kindle, otherwise I’d be buried under so many books that the thought of picking one would be utterly daunting!

I’ve just started The Lies We Steal by Monty Jay, and my current physical TBR pile looks like this:
• Glint — Raven Kennedy 👑
• The West Wind — Alexandria Warwick 🍃
• Song of the Abyss — Emma Hamm 🧜
• How Does It Feel — Jeneane O’Riley 🧚♂️
• Quicksilver — Callie Hart ⚔️
I’m hoping to get through as many as I can this month… mostly so I can justify buying even more from my ridiculously long wish list 🤭📚

I’m new to Goodreads and fairly fresh into my midlife book era 📚 I’m hoping to find some likeminded bookworms to chat with.
I fell victim to the classic set-up: a seasoned book girlie lends a budding book girlie (me) ACOTAR; said book gets devoured; budding book girlie’s life is forever changed — and suddenly her bookshelf (and bank balance) are in grave danger ⚠️
Fast-forward six months, I’ve devoured 22 books and I’m loving every page of this new chapter. I also enjoy writing reviews and seeing what everyone else is reading.
Feel free to add me as a friend if you’d like ☺️
