128056 hmm, i dont really have much in the way of guilty pleasures as i think if its pleasurable i shouldnt feel guilty about it. but i guess something that would be considered a guilty pleasure, i consider an immature hobby, is playing pokemon. the old gameboy versions mainly.

favourite way to relax after a long day?

128056 have moved on to a zombie book, its by no means an educational or enlightening piece of literature, but it is fun. lots of gore and ridiculousness. the book is: Elements of the Undead Omnibus (Books 1-3) by William Esmont

128056 Marco polo

Year: 1289

First things first, this whole episode arc is a reconstruction. Just picture and the audio for 7 episodes. It wasnt easy to watch, im not gonna lie. I definitely prefer the episodes that are the actual video (damn you careless 1960's bbc workers), but i do respect the work put into making the recons, thats about all the praise recons get from me. Now, to the story...

The doctor, susan, barbara and ian are now on the roof of the world, only to be captured by marco polo. The explorer is on his way to see kubla khan, bringing him goods or something. It doesnt matter, all that matters is polo takes the travellers prisoner, claiming the tardis, or flying caravan, as his own. So the doctor and friends must find a way to get the tardis back while not getting killed by traitorous mongols or weird bad sounding sandstorms. Polo eventually does come around to the doctors side, but only barely.

As for the doctor, hes actually not really in the story all that much. For the first 4 or 5 episodes hes so overwrought with emotions about the tardis being taken he seems to conk out for a while. Its definitely still in its educational phase as there is a lot of information about marco polo and his dealings with china. Whether its accurate or not to history, i have no idea, so i wouldnt watch this arc if youre doing a report on the guy.

Overall, not the greatest episode. Boring, shitty story, a bloody recon all the way throughout and the doctor wasnt at his best. Id only recommend this one to crazy doctor who fans like me who want to watch every episode.

128056 True crime is non fiction, if that helps to make your mind up.

128056 right, first off is a book im reading now called pierrepont: a family of executioners. its about the pierrepont family and their vocation, official executioners for the british empire. it is a fascinating read, for the true crime inclined almost every paragraph is a new tale of true horror about a person a pierrepont will soon hang. im talking thousands of criminals here. really well done, concise and to the point. also there is a movie to go along with it which focuses on the youngest of the pierrepont family, albert. it was really great, i cant recommend it enough, even if you dont get around to reading a book about him or the one im reading now. its a hell of a tale.

128056 all right, admittedly, i dont give this enough attention. considering i last watched the old doctor in march of last year, im definitely behind on my goal. perhaps its cuz i had a goal of 500 movies for 2014 (made that one) but now that thats all done with i can eventually get back to this. so if you are curious to read some old doctor episode reviews be patient, i will get back to it soon :)
