I completely agree! There's a quote somewhere that says, "Technology is a double-edged sword." I feel like that quote perfectly describes the cons and benefits of tech. I also think a lot of people prefer technology over reading (except for us avid readers), which can ofc be a problem. I really think technology can help people connect in so many ways (a lot of people find books through technology). Technically, this book group is only possible because of technology, so I can definitely see that there are benefits of tech to our reading.

I know this group is really new, so we decided to add an icebreaker where we can get to know each other!

I would say try to keep it YA (so maybe 14-18) just because we aren't sure everyone's ages! Depending on what people are comfortable with, we can see if we do more mature books ✊✊
