And lots of snow too? Or maybe not. I'm assuming it's at least plenty cold up in the Great White North.

To be honest, I don't really write survivalist books either. Wilderness, most definitely. But not so much like how to hollow out a cave in snow to stay warmer or start a fire rubbing two sticks together. That said, I don't see any reason why someone at least wouldn't appreciate the cross country journey that is The Agora Files by Adam Oster. I certainly recommend that one too...so long as no one is looking for a handbook on how to survive on edible plants and such. It's just good ol' fashioned dystopian adventure fiction. A lot like mine :)

126199 Welcome, Jason! It's great to have you here. It seems like we have a lot of backpackers in the group, so that might be something to chat about. We're going to start up a canoeing/kayaking thread too, I believe.

Your job really grabbed my attention. My friend, S.M. Koz, wrote a book about troubled teens in a wilderness therapy class. She's a brand new group member. Maybe we can get her to talk about it a bit.

The book is Breaking Free

126199 Hey, everyone. I'm pleased to announce the second book in my dystopian, action/adventure, YA, wilderness survival trilogy is now available in paperback and ebook.

http://www.amazon.com/Rebellion-North...

I'd love for you to check out Rebellion in Northwoods (and Book 1 - Fugitives from Northwoods). The ebook is only $2.99, and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

126199 Just a quick warning that the paperback for Rebellion should be out in the next few days, so time is definitely running out to pick up a $0.99 ebook copy of Fugitives. I'd sure appreciate your support. Thanks!

126199 To celebrate the release of the second book in the series, my publisher has temporarily lowered the ebook price of Book 1, Fugitives from Northwoods, to $0.99. Grab it up quick. As soon as the paperback of Book 2 is released, the price goes back to $2.99.

The Northwoods Trilogy is a dystopian, wilderness survival, action/adventure series. Simply pitched...It is 2027 and the youth of a failed America, forced into slave labor camps at age fourteen, have never tasted freedom. But all of that is about to change. Tonight, Penn and his crew are going under the wire.

Thank you for your interest!

Hi Kris. I'd say both. I'm sure lots of us would like to know of any recommendations. I've posted a few recommendations to the bookshelf and would welcome more.

If anyone would like to take on trying to get a book club together, that would be great. We could do Book of the Month and all that.

126199 Hi, Sara. Welcome aboard! We haven't been the most active lately, but that's all on me. I've be slacking.

I see you have a survivalist-looking book. I'll add that to our group's shelf.

126199 That looks fascinating, J. Excellent recommendation. I'll add it to the group's bookshelf (and my own To Read list).

126199 Thanks for the tip.
That's beautiful, Katherine. My brother-in-law just moved somewhere outside of Seattle and he's constantly making us all jealous with posts of different parks/trails he's been hiking.

126199 That's a great point about teens.
The books sound intriguing. I particularly enjoyed the second quote. I'll have to add the books to our group bookshelf.

126199 How's that for a coincidence?!
That is one outstanding review, my frend. Wow! I'm almost blushing.

126199 Great question. I'm thinking the only way is linking to an external site. I haven't used Tumblr in forever, but here are some pictures I posted a long time ago related to Fugitives from Northwoods

126199 ...but sometimes it can enhance the story. Wilderness Survival, in particular, really benefits from some excellent photos.

Won't you share with us some pictures of your favorite books/places?

126199 My publisher is practically giving this thing away. I'd love for you to take a look at it. Here's a quick blurb:

Eight teenagers escape imprisonment at a work camp to brave the wilderness. Tested to their limits, they struggle to survive their terrifying dash for freedom.

After the total collapse of the world economy, the United States could not stand together. So they failed separately. In the small region-state of Winnkota, poverty and greed are turning the idyllic Northwoods of Minnesota into a barren wasteland of clear-cut forests and over-fished lakes. Every able-bodied teenager is conscripted into a labor force and sent to work in harsh, prison-like conditions. They are enslaved young so they never learn to think for themselves. But Penn is different. He's determined to win back freedom—for himself, his friends, and someday for his homeland.

On a cold autumn night, the group makes their dash for freedom north of the border. The fugitives endure a series of difficult wilderness challenges while pursued by the ruthless camp guards. They weave through dense forest, scale cliffs, swim through the bitterly cold lakes, and otherwise try simply to survive. Pushing his friends to the breaking point, Penn guides the fugitives through a harsh, but ironically beautiful, backdrop of amazing Northwoods scenery. Adversity and loss abound, all while an unexpected physical attraction leads to a burgeoning love story.

Should any of them survive to reach the border, will the freedom found equal all that they expected?

Maybe that wasn't so quick of a blurb. Sorry.

126199 Tell us about some great reads. Anything, anywhere. Up north freezing cold (that's pretty relevant here in the U.S. right now). Or maybe some deserted island in the south Pacific.

126199 Want to know more about characters, like why do they have such weird names? Maybe the setting or the inspiration? Fire away and I'll do my best to answer.
