125878 WOW. This book is a frightful, horrifying nightmare! YIKES! It is definitely NOT for the faint of heart. I love mystery/thriller/suspense and this one kept me on the very edge of my seat and nearly sent me sprawling, chapter after chapter. It is rough, edgy, grimy, graphic, and sometimes appalling. With that being said, it is a GREAT read. Warning...there are 2-3 scenes of disturbing abuse. Just a heads up, but I loved the book. I have to agree with Debbie that there would be VERY FEW teens I would recommend this to as it scared the living BEJEEZUS out of me!

125878 Dang, this book was a hard read. Even when I finished reading the book, I wasn't sure what the heck happened! What country is this in? What is "wrong" with the boy? I don't know if I liked it or not. Plus, the drawings in it kinda grossed me out. 2stars.

125878 For me, this book started out a little clumsy and slow (perhaps a metaphor for beautiful main character, Habo). However, I strongly recommend you give the book until around page 50 or so. The book really takes off. The story of an albino Tanzanian boy (age 13) and his and his family's difficult life because of his color. This book is thrilling, sad, and a perpetual roller coaster of emotions. I thoroughly enjoyed it and could not put it down!

Thanks, Amy! I didn't realize that. I read the introduction but I guess I didn't read it as closely as I should have. Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to try and keep up with it now.

125878 The was my official first graphic novel, although it didn't read like one, more so a comic strip? I liked it, just wish it didn't end so abruptly!

125878 Wow...this book made me hungry!!!! I am sad that she didn't have a recipe for the croissants. I will be trying the one for the mushrooms, though! I liked the flashbacks and how her parents worked their way through a divorce without is seeming to seriously affect her relationships. Good book!

So happy I'm not completely out of the loop in this one too. I was beginning to think there was some big idea or something huge I was missing!

125878 Having been through something similar to Win's abusive experience, I have to say I HATED, yes, HATED this book. I feel it was flimsy and superficial and implies that Win has a monster within him that is doomed to come out. I understand that isn't how it worked out in the end, but just to imply it really made me upset. I wish I had back the time it took me to read this book.

125878 So, I read this book and the only way I can describe it is the following...if you love the movie "Memento", the tv series "Lost" and you like witches, ghosts, folklore, Viking mythology, and historical fiction, you will LOVE this book. It's probably one of the weirdest books I've read in a VERY long time and I loved it!
