Startails are the descendents of a group of immediately post scorching Dragons that branched off from the First Dragon Tribe. The branch offs, as they were called by the First Tribe, went up north, where some of the last vestiges of human civilization remained. These dragons are where we get the tales of “Evil Dragons eating princesses” and similar stuff. In reality, they were protecting the princesses and assorted young women from the knights, who were collectively a bit of a dick(not just that timeline, they were dicks in this timeline too). After the knights more or less gave up trying to kill the dragons, the dragons started perfecting magics. One of the magics they perfected was transformation magics. In the intervening 5000 years or so, they started breeding into the gene pool, resulting in Startails. Startails at first glance look almost identical to humans, but upon closer inspection, there are some startling differences. For example, Startails have tails and horns. Some have wings. One defining feature of all Startails is the silver scales intermixed with the other scales on the tail. This has led some scientists to believe that the Dragons that were the ancestors of Startails also were the ancestors of Nightwings. Startails are at a tech level on par with modern U.S.A. They are some of the best freestyle dancers known to man and Dragonkind alike. They have skin tones ranging from almost pure black to nearly pure white. They are at least as diverse as humans on that front, maybe more so. Common names are fusions of Dragon words and Human words. Startails normally live to about 150 years old, although there are some that are over 200. They reach adulthood at about 13, and stop growing at about 18 to 20 years old. They don’t really do families, instead preferring group homes with people they aren't related to. Incest is not an issue, as the fusion of Dragon and Human DNA resulted in a piece of code that is an incest deterrent. All Startails have a spattering of very small scales on their faces that look like freckles unless you really look hard at them. They can breathe small fireballs, as well as streams of fire. Startails don’t really have any centralized government. It’s one person, one vote. Women’s Lib is not an issue with Startail society, since they’re descended from dragons, and women's lib is pretty much hardwired into dragon brains.
