Alright everyone! It’s finally time for me to conquer Brandon Sanderson’s books in The Cosmere universe. If any of you want to go on this long journey with me, let’s do this!!

I am debating if I should re-read the Mistborn trilogy, Elantris, Warbreaker and the Alloy of Law, so will think on it over the next few days. I am currently working through Tress of the Emerald Sea if any of you want to jump in with me already :))

The reading order:
1. Mistborn: The Final Empire
2. Mistborn: The Well of Ascension
3. Mistborn: The Hero of Ages
4. Arcanum Unbound: The Eleventh Metal
5. Warbreaker
6. Secret Project: Tress of the Emerald Sea
7. Stormlight Archives: The Way of Kings
8. Elantris
9. Arcanum Unbound: The Hope of Elantris
10. Stormlight Archives: Words of Radiance
11. Arcanum Unbound: Edgedancer
12. Secret Project: Yumi and the Nightmare Painter
13. Stormlight Archives: Oathbringer
14. Arcanum Unbound: Dawnshard
15. Stormlight Archives: Rhythm of War
16. Stormlight Archives: Wind and Truth
17. Secret Project: The Sunlit Man
18. Mistborn: Alloy of Law
19. Mistborn: Shadow of Self
20. Arcanum Unbound: Allomancer Jak and the Pits of Eltania
21. Mistborn: The Bands of Mourning
22. Arcanum Unbound: Mistborn Secret History
23. Mistborn: The Lost Metal

1249061 Oooo adding that to my TBR list!! I like books with characters closer to my age 😂

1249061 Cozy fantasy is perfect for this monsoon season we’re getting now! I might just get it myself

1249061 When I was younger I couldn’t listen to anything while reading, it would break up my focus so quickly. Now that I’m older (or maybe because I have noisy children), I can block out any noise distractions while reading. I also need white noise in the background to feel comfortable, including sleeping 😅 a dead silent room is incredibly jarring to me.

I usually read with the gentle hum of my air filter 😂 or outside in my garden on a breezy day so I can hear nature. When I do put music on, my tastes are all over the place! I try to find a playlist or album on Spotify that suites the mood of whatever I’m reading. At other times I’ll just put something ambient on, without vocals. My husband always has music playing somewhere around our home, so I can hear it and it’s nice when someone else choose the song while I dive into a book. I’ve been obsessed with Raye recently, her live performance at the Royal Albert Hall is amazing and that’s what I’ve been listening to. Her vocal technical skill is mind-blowing, so much control and soul. I’m a sucker for incredibly soulful and lower register female singers.

Thank you for answering this question! I asked because I think methods like this can be so helpful to others as well. ADHD is an immense hill to climb, and I gather it can be quite frustrating. I appreciate you sharing this with us.

The Mistborn series is so good! Actually, I think what truly shines is the way the trilogy ends. It's one of the best endings to a trilogy I've read that perfectly summarises everything that has happened in the previous novels. It's beautifully written. You start Mistborn, and i'll finally get through Stormlight Archives! I heard a new book from the Stormlight is coming out early next year? I think

These booktube recommendations are great! I'm saving them to watch whenever I feel like I need a little kick in the butt to read. Sometimes I love the snarky comments too lol

Ok next year's goal for me is to definitely get through more of Robin Hobbs trilogies. I love her writing and I was so hung up on Fitz, but I think its time to fall in love with more characters.

If you met my husband, he would drag you outside with him to do some gardening XD he loves it. He leaves me indoors because he knows I am a plant murderer. It's always amazing to me when I hear of the ways others manage their disabilities, it's inspiring that there is always a way. Defeat is just learning how to succeed in another way.

1249061 Do dragons count as animal companions 👀👀👀

Because if they do… FOURTH WING. This book has been living in my head since I read it and I’m about to re-read it like 5 more times.

Why am I obsessed with this book? There are dragons and trials and battles and the friendships are so good and the banter is *chefs kiss* and the romance makes me roll around in bed like an Olympic gymnast

1249061 You need to drop your friend’s Romantasy novel here as soon as it’s published! Let’s support friends

1249061 I love characters who are slightly neurodivergent too! I think it adds so much more of a challenge and insight for the characters. To see them finally thrive or conquer makes me feel like I need to give everyone a high five 😂😂

The other character types I love to read about are people who are an absolute hot mess. I don’t know why lol it would be far too chaotic for me to be around that person IRL but reading about it is just so entertaining. Characters getting into hot water all the time because they’re such a screw up is my jam.

1249061 I’ve heard great things about Red Rising though, I think that’s supposed to be in a dystopian setting. I hope someone here has read it and can let us know if it’s good!

1249061 Let’s get you reading consistently! Because it helps me read consistently too hehe we need to lift one another up here.

I haven’t read many self help books, but sci fi yessss
If you haven’t read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. It’s so much more than a story about creating a monster; it dives deep into what is real or not, nature, humanity, mental illness, etc. The descriptions are beyond amazing too! Be warned though, it’s BLOODY lol very gothic but very sci fi too.

I enjoyed Leviathan Wakes, the books that The Expanse tv series is based on. I have a pile of sci fi books on my TBR list I haven’t read yet but I’ve heard good things.

1249061 Oooo an animal genre!! I read The Art of Racing in the Rain after my dopey and lovable Lab passed. It was such a cathartic release for me to be brought through those emotions again and bawl my eyes out. It helped me with the loss.

It’s a sad book though 🥺 but like cathartic sad

Hello Felix!

That's what I'm hoping with this book club. I also struggle with consistency, and I want us to motivate one another by inspiring others with the stories we read.

I'm impressed! You don't read much but made it through that behemoth of a book; Way of Kings! I just found my new copy so I intend on finishing it before the end of the year. I heard the 2nd book is even better. As someone with ADHD, what tools or methods do you use to stay focused when reading?

You reminded me that I need to start exercising again XD I almost never snack, my one weakness is chocolate, however lately I've been snacking entirely too much and I will start paying for it soon.

I love the contrast between your two dogs lol the dualism of the dogs. I'm so jealous of my husband's spaniel, who is obsessed with him too, she can't be more than 1ft away from him.

Swimming is the best! I love feeling weightless in the water, floating around, dulling the sound of everything else around me. I could be in pool or the ocean all day if I could.

Love that we all bonded over video games, and that brought us together here as an extension for our love of fantasy.

Hi flower!

I'm so happy you're here! It's nice to see that this very of-the-moment decision to create this club has sparked interest and given a little space for our hobby.

Assassin's Apprentice! Omg that book came to me at a time in my life I REALLY needed it. I read through the entire trilogy within 2 weeks I think and I cried through all of it as well. There is something about Robin Hobb's more contemporary style (for fantasy) of writing that let me see through Fitz's eyes with such clarity. I should make a shelf of must read fantasy and that would definitely be in there.

You need to recommend some of those booktubes! I would love to see lists and reviews.

Hi Basil! That's an insanely cute name for a tiny tyrant. The puppy phase is the most difficult time. No sleep, theyre chewing up everything, theyre slightly suicidal, the accidents everywhere, its like having a baby tbh. But it's over before you know it, and they will never have that sweet puppy breath again. One day, you will look back fondly on how stupidly adorable they were. I know it's said often, but I cannot stress enough how much better it will be for you and the puppy to take long and engaging walks together every day. It really helps with building a great bond, and minimises their little mischiefs.

I feel for you with those health issues, it\s difficult to do the things you love with that constantly looming just overhead. I'm glad to hear you don't let it define you, and you still do the things you love like gardening! I would kill any plant just by touching it, my husband has the green thumb and without him we wouldn't have this lush and thriving garden. The nursery is in our bathroom, so I feel like I take a shower in a forest XD it gets a little wild at times.

Hi bb

You and I are going to be the smutty burden here for a while XD I'm so glad we discovered romantasy together lol Everyone will have to suffer us for a while before we start heading back to other genres. I really need to read Way of the Kings, but I can't when I have ACOTAR waiting in my kindle.

If your mom wants to send me Mango Ice Box, I will not say no >.>

Hi Cynder!

I'm the same with reading challenges, they never work for me and then it's disheartening to see myself falling faaaar behind which then starts a cycle of not reading. That's what I'm hoping this little bookclub will do, that we can inspire one another to continue reading and talking excitedly about the books we love, and dissecting the ones we dnf to figure out what to avoid in the future.
I always have my kindle or a stack of books I intend to read by my bedside as well! I find it's comforting and a good motivator for me.
Cats are the best! Building a bond with them takes patience and trust, but it's so rewarding when they pick you as their human.
