I wasn't surprised when the 2008 financial crisis happened. It was coming. But the big banks knew that governments and their politicians would never allow the banking sector to collapse. It would be economically, socially and politically catastrophic. The casino banks knew that politicians would spend their political capital saving it. Win-win. But that was then. Things have changed, and the road is further travelled now. Will the most powerful really choose to put all their eggs in that same basket again?
Maybe the politicians won't be needed at all next time round. After all, humanity is a learning species.

In my Politics class we're discussing the intellectual origins of neoliberalism. Were the early thinkers governed by honesty? Naivety? Duplicity? How did they see tyranny? Why did they focus so much on government? Was it too narrow a perspective? Why did they see capitalism as saviour? How important is environment in stunting abstract thought? Were they cultural slaves to a pipe dream?
Take any of these questions and I'm happy to chat.
