As a child with two working parents, it was difficult for them to pick me up from school on time, so I would walk to the nearest public library, and wait until the evening to be picked up. This is where my love for reading began.
The public library holds a special place in my heart, and I hope you guys are encouraged to use it more this upcoming year.
1. It's Free!
I’m sure you know that reading can become an expensive hobby and books can take up a lot of space that you may or may not have. Checking out books it’s a great way to still read and manage your space and money.
2. Go outside!
I’ll be the first to admit that lately the only physical activity that I’ve been getting are my weekly walks to the library. For some the locations may require driving but if you have the opportunity to walk over, definitely recommend!
3. Community
You never know who you might meet at the library. There’s so many opportunities for friends. Local libraries also have a lot of events. I know mine has book clubs, and star-nights.
4. Consumerism
One of the reasons I started going back to my local library is because I realized how many books I had purchased over the years without reading. A lot of my pride came from how much I owned and showed off to others. Now, after I read a book from the library it’s easier to decide whether I want my own copy or not. Really has helped saving my wallet.
5. Digital content
Last but definitely not least. I recently bought a Kindle and it’s life changing. I travel a lot whether for school, work, or family. Carrying books for a summer or a whole semester was definitely difficult for my back. Public Libraries have such a great digital archive. Whether books, magazines or movies, and dvds. Seriously considering cancelling all my subscriptions.
I love buying books and the fresh book smell. But adopting the library lifestyle has added to my reading experience.
Do you use your local library?

I made the list as varied as I could think of, trying not to repeat any authors. However, if there is a book that you feel strongly about not reading, and think that the group would benefit from reading a different book, please feel free to recommend them!
Below: Comment the book you want to swap, and what should take its place. If it gains enough traction, we'll vote on it :)

Now that we are nearing the end of the year, I am curious :)

Try it out yourself! Maybe you'll have better luck than me. It would help out a lot. The missing titles are:
1. 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (February)
2. The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux (September)
3. The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy (November)

Feel free to introduce yourself here by telling us your name/username and your favorite book right now.

My name is Ruth and I am a college student. Since I am majoring in the sciences all I read for a long time were research papers, so it is my intent to go back to reading for fun. My favorite book right now is Paul Kalanithi's memoir When Breath Becomes Air.
