Simple enough -- a book by an author whose initials occur consecutively in the alphabet. A. B., B. C., R. S., etc. Have fun!

Not a lot of people read poetry anymore... why not try some? There are a lot of great poets out there to enjoy. Give one a shot.

We see a lot of teens and twenty-somethings in fiction... let's see some older folks get some time in the spotlight!

Read something that characters are talking about onscreen! If you're stuck on this one, feel free to hit Google and find books that get mentioned in shows you don't watch, hehe...

BIPOC - Black, Indigenous, or Person of Color
Again, this prompt may be different for each person. I think we'd all be surprised at how many White authors we tend to read, so this is a chance to diversify what you read!

This one will probably be different for every participant, since it depends on your birthday. Still, you can find some treasures in books older than you are!

Because the 2024 Summer Olympics will be in Paris, France, I thought it would be fun to have a prompt commemorating the Summer Games! Your book will count even if it's not set in Paris, though -- anywhere in France will work.

Another prompt to inspire people to read books by international authors! If the author comes from any country in Central or South America, it counts for this prompt!

A novella is a short book somewhere between 17,500 and 40,000 words, or roughly between 70 and 160 pages. And novellas have been making a comeback, especially in the sci-fi/fantasy genres.
Any short reads look good to you?

I'm going to try to avoid "a [insert thing here] on the cover" prompts for this challenge, because I want this challenge to be accessible to as many people as possible. So instead, the thing in question can be either on the cover, or in the title.
What bloom-tastic book will you choose?

The Newbery Medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, and given to honor the most distinguished contribution to children's literature. For a full list of past winners and runners-up, go here --

Most of these books, in my experience, are either in the Young Adult section or the biographies and memoirs. But there are still plenty of options to choose from!

This is a great way to explore literature from outside of your home country. And you can find books from just about any genre!

This one might be a little harder if you don't read non-fiction... but there are plenty of options out there. Essays don't have to be boring!

This should be a colorful prompt, haha... remember, first AND last names count. (Even middle names if you'd like!)

Neurodivergency covers autism, ADHD, and other conditions. This one may require a little research, but there are many options!

Whether it's Disneyland, a haunted amusement park, or a country fair, this is a unique setting for a book. Enjoy the ride (and the popcorn)!

Simple enough -- a book published in 2024! This could include an ARC or the next book in a series you're reading.
What books are you looking forward to?

Welcome to the Robot Librarian's Reading Challenge! I'm your moderator, Kenya, and I hope you all have a good time here.
This thread is for participants to introduce themselves, and to talk a bit about what they like to read. No need to get too personal, just tell us a bit about yourselves!
My name is Mandi, but I've used the online name of Kenya for many years now, so go ahead and call me by that. I'm a librarian from Idaho who loves fantasy, science fiction, non-fiction, and will dabble in other genres if they interest me. I'm also an avid Star Wars and Transformers fan -- the latter of which explains the Robot Librarian name for the challenge, haha.
Happy reading!
