First of all, the My Happy Marriage, Vol. 1 series is currently my shoujo crack. I've read some of the manga and watched the first 8?-ish episodes of the anime on Netflix. I'm hypnotized by everyone's incredibly shiny/sparkly CG eyes.

I hear what you're saying, but for me I'd say it seemed like the opposite. Adrien felt like the subordinate role (at least, in the romantic relationship) and was constantly looking for Isolde's approval. Whereas Isolde had the prejudice about Adrien and only after mistreating him for a while, she began to change her mind.

Also, it disappointing to hear the narrator was bad. I've found several women narrators that I love but not many men.

This thread is to discuss spicy manga & graphic novels. This also includes spicy webcomics.

*Firstly, what are your favorites/recommendations?
*Secondly, where does everyone FIND THEM? Especially spicy webcomics. I've read some webcomics like Oglaf by Trudy Cooper, Chester 5000 XYV by Jess Fink, and StarFighter by Hamlet Machine. I've been meaning to check out places like Tappytoon, Tapas, Lezhin, Manta, and Futekiya for Yaoi/BL content but haven't yet. Most of them have some kind of paywall and I'm not sure which is worth my $$$.

I just finished How Not to Date a Demon and it was pretty cute for a silly and fluffy paranormal romance. It was short but still felt like there was somewhat of a plot (albeit a simple one). The spice doesn't really kick in till the last third of the book, but when it does it reeeeally does.

If you are in the Pacific Northwest area here are some more upcoming book events:

1) If you are a fan of Jacqueline Carey, she will be making an appearance next week at the Powell's Books in Beaverton, OR on Wednesday, August 9th at 7pm. I am going to try attending because the original trilogy with Kushiel's Dart is my EVERYTHING.

2) On the weekend of October 14 - 15 there's The Seattle Antiquarian Book Fair. History + Books = ❤. There will be vendors from the US, Canada, and England. Tickets will be $10 at the door. For more info check out: https://www.seattlebookfair.com/

You Had Me at Hola by Alexis Daria is our currently monthly pick. It's a contemporary romance featuring two Latinx actors who work on a telenovela. What are your thoughts?

I just finished A Strange and Stubborn Endurance a few days ago. I wouldn't call it a spicy book. Like a 🌶🌶/5 rating. But towards the end there is a lengthy and descriptive spicy scene along with a couple other short ones. It's listed as a fantasy romance but the fantasy elements are very minimal to the story. It feels more like a historical mystery novel with a strong m/m marriage-of-convenience romance. There are some serious triggers so I'd recommend checking them out before giving it a try. But it was really sweet if you enjoy a slow-burn hurt/comfort romance.

When She Belongs by Ruby Dixon is our August 2023 monthly pick! It's the fourth book in Dixon's "Risdaverse" series. What are everyone's thoughts?

*For me, I'm only 10% in so far and I was a little lost at the beginning. But it's now going in it's own direction. I'm also excited about how Sleipnir will play into the plot. Who wouldn't want a giant alien lizard cat?!

There is a Puget Sound Book Festival happening on Sunday, August 6th from 12 - 4pm at Yoked Farmhouse and Brewery in Port Orchard, WA.
It's organized by an online romance bookstore called Wicked Words that also sells a Smut-Tea Loose Leaf Tea. The tea is described as an "indecent infusion" which has "a rich purple hue with a seductive sparkle. Slippery elm and marshmallow root bring a soothingly seductive throat-coat function and the irresistible aroma of cardamom and rose will have you feeling some kind of way." Personally, I don't even drink tea and I'm tempted to purchase it.

The event is LOTR themed but the 501 Garrison will also be here as well. Each Nerdy Social Hour has an individual theme, but I asked the 501 to come to several of the events. The Nerdy Social Hour will technically be in the big gathering room, whereas the Stormtroopers will be wandering about the whole library.

It's Pride Month! Talk about all the spicy LGBTQIA+ books! What are your recommendations? I feel like there's a lot of great spicy gay M/M books out there, especially recently. But it's still difficult finding spicy books with representation of other kinds of queer relationships.

P.S. - I feel like "Queer Spice" would have been a great addition to the Spice Girls.

Since I am a devoted convert to the "monster smash" genre I thought we should have a discussion topic about it. What are your recommendations? What books or authors didn't work for you? What are your favorite kinds on nonhuman characters? What is the craziest thing (or things) you ever read?

What are you currently reading? Would you recommend it and how would you rate the spice level?
