I think the main motive here for both partners should be welfare, safety and comfort of the children. As not much is mentioned here about the reason of divorce, i would assume both the parents are good to children. So they both should get time with them. The children should have a good relationship with both of them. Coming to assets, the correct distribution would be 50-50 only. If a partner is not earning enough to keep the kids well, other should help.
