Easy or challenging to read? I struggled with some of the proverbs in this book because I don't have the cultural knowledge to understand them from the get go. Anyone else feels the same?

Hwang's book is not an extensive history of Korea. To me, as someone who is not knowledgeable on the subject, it was perfect. It allowed me to have a glimpse at Korean history. I would not have been able to appreciate all historical details in a thorough history book.

But not everyone may feel the same way. What do you prefer? A selected history or a thorough history book to start learning about a country? How so?
