CHARACTERRace/Class
Read a book from a genre you usually don't read.
This will determine your race/class.
Dungeons & Dragons Challenge
Sign-ups are open until February 28th.
The challenge is open-ended.
The Challenge
1. Comment here to sign up, and I will create a personal challenge thread for you.
2. You will create your adventurer step by step: first by reading for a race/class, then a weapon, then a companion. Each of these will come with a one-time-use advantage to help you later in the challenge.
3. After your character is ready, you will begin the journey. At each stage, you will face a short story and a choice of tasks. The book you choose to read will determine the path your story takes.
4. To move forward, you must read for at least one of the tasks presented. You can only choose one task per branch — but you may use your earned advantages to skip or bend a rule if you wish.
5. Please make a completion post in your thread using this template:

How it fits:
6. If you feel stuck, you may use 5 points to skip a task.
7. Completing a task gives you 2 points. Completing the challenge gives you 25 points.
8. If you don't have a personal point account thread yet, request one here.
Sorry, I missed your post! Use any book read from Sep 28th to now that fits the prompt: Weapon
Read a book and tell me the page count and format.
This will determine your weapon.
Tiefling RangerYou are bold and curious, always venturing where others fear to tread.
Advantage: “Planar Step” – Once, you can move two prompts ahead instead of one (basically fast-travel through the story).
Elf MageYou are graceful and intelligent, with a knack for seeing what others miss.
Advantage: “Arcane Wisdom” – Once, you can ask the DM (me) for a hint about an upcoming prompt before you commit to a path.
The Forgotten Mines ⛏️The tunnels echo with dripping water. Rusted tracks hint at long-abandoned work — but you’re not alone here.
The Crystal Cavern 💎
Prompt: Read a book with a jewel, gem, or precious object on the cover or in the story.
Outcome: The cavern walls glitter, but touching the crystals may awaken something.
The Goblin Warren 🪓
Prompt: Read a book with MPG Adventure.
Outcome: Torchlight flickers — a band of goblins has made this place their home.
SwordBalanced and reliable, a hero’s classic weapon.
Advantage: “Parry” – Once, you can deflect a prompt you dislike and swap it for a random new one from the DM.
Halfling ClericYou are lighthearted and kind, bringing warmth and hope to all around you.
Advantage: “Healing Hands” – Once, you may “heal” a failed attempt (if you start a book but can’t finish, you can count it as completed).
SwordBalanced and reliable, a hero’s classic weapon.
Advantage: “Parry” – Once, you can deflect a prompt you dislike and swap it for a random new one from the DM.
DAY 4📸The Murder

Day Four.
The sky was clear. The sea was calm. The party was in full swing.
And then someone screamed.
A body has been found floating in the ship’s infinity pool—and this cruise just turned into a crime scene.
🕵️♀️Tasks:
1. Read a book where someone dies
2. Read a book that includes a mystery, thriller, or crime
3. Read a book with a shocking twist
📸 Investigation: Theo Zhang
Theo’s magic show has been cancelled.
Guests are saying it’s “out of respect”—but some say the real reason is darker.
He didn’t seem shocked when Javier died. In fact… he didn’t seem shocked by anything.
And someone found a list in his cabin. A list with seven names. One of them now crossed out.
🗣️ Interrogation Snippet:
“Magic is just misdirection,” Theo says, slowly shuffling a deck of cards. “But murder? That’s personal.”
He smiles. “Javier thought he was clever. Said he’d figured out what I was really doing on this ship. Said he was going to warn someone.”
He places a card on the table. It’s the King of Hearts. “Maybe he should’ve worried about himself instead.”
📚Tasks:
1. Read a book with a manipulative or mysterious male character
2. Read a book involving a list, secret plan, or conspiracy
3. Read a book with a “cat-and-mouse” feel between characters
