Yeah, that is DEFINITELY the full-length version. I guarantee it.

I kind of
did realize this would be funny, but I think it's the kind of funny that others might find...tedious? The hope was that I wouldn't. (Find it tedious, I mean.)
Carina, how many total "locations" does your Kindle version show? It should be at least ten thousand, I think.

It's possible. I know for sure that this version, which is free on Feedbooks and in the public domain, is the complete novel, and is translated by John Ormsby.
http://www.feedbooks.com/book/183/don...There are certainly lots of
modern translations, but his is supposed to have been the "definitive" one for many years.

That's true. I've noticed that myself, that sometimes those old translations are a bit stifled. Glad you're liking this. I'm probably going to start tomorrow. For some reason I'm always behind, so I might as well embrace it.

I hope I fall in love with it, too!
Sarah wrote: "Kindle's daily deal has the Kindle edition of the Grossman translation for $1.99."Yeah, I noticed that. That is an incredible deal.
The Ormsby version is free for the kindle on Feedbooks.com. I read the first page of each version (Ormsby vs. Grossman) and I really liked Grossman's a lot better.
I think you probably can't go wrong with either, so whatever, but I'm pretty happy to be reading the Grossman one.

Okay! Sorry I didn't leave it open to discussion when to start the book but I just know once the spring comes my reading time diminishes. I hope you like Tartt, though. I've heard lots of good things.

Well you have a whole month to get it from Amazon!

The Grossman book is about 1000 pages, but the actual text is about 850 or 900, I think.

Ok, good luck. My library had Grossman's copy today so hopefully it's abundant.

It's why I don't get along with half of Goodreads. I never learned how to be polite!

hahah oh, i love it too when lips come on my updates. =)

Yay! It's great to be reading with you again, Mary. You've been M.I.A. a bit. =)
...but every time I look at the size of that thick tome, I put the thought right out of my head again. And I think that's where a group read can help. I've got it spread out to read only about 15 pages a day. I think that makes it sound more "do-able."

Haha, Jen I
knew you'd be the first to show up here!
I've been wanting to read this for a while, too. Sometimes group reads help; sometimes they hinder. I try not to do too many in a year, but I think I'm ready for one come January.
