120448 Sex is not necessary for these books because it's all about the struggle against good and evil and ultimate survival Katniss is too busy trying to survive and help Peta that the last thing on her mind is sex. Quite frankly, I thing that it is refreshing that a great story that doesn't involve sex for once.
120448 It is very apparent that we are being watched everyday of our lives, and it is changing how we react. Even when we are at home thinking that we are safe, we are being watched there too. When we're at home, working on the computer, the government is monitoring us on the internet paying attention to what we say and do whether it is an innocent post on Facebook or a tweet on twitter. We can all be located by one touch of a button, and that his pretty scary.

120448 I've never read 1984, but based on what I've heard about the book it sounds very similar to the Hunger Games especially in today's society. It's all about "Big Brother" watching your every move, and you can't to be too careful about what you say or do otherwise the government may come and get you.
120448 I think that she is a true hero. All this girl wants to do is provide and protect her family. She didn't ask to be the hero or really doesn't want to be, but she rises to the occasion calls for it. She is not perfect by any means, but I think that makes her such a great hero. Katniss is just an average teenaged girl who loves her family and is tired of the injustice that is happening to the world around her, and I think everyone can relate to that. It's just so refreshing to see a character like Katniss finding her voice, and not afraid to stand up for her rights no matter what happens. You just want to cheer for her at every turn!

120448 I think one of my favorite scenes is where Katniss convinces Peeta to eat the poison berries in hopes the government would stop them to "save face." Ultimate middle finger to the government.
120448 I want to work with animals, but I want to take more classes like these to sharpen my mind about politics especially in today's society.
120448 Jeffrey wrote: "How the politically-connected use media to manipulate the masses, or how they use politics to centrally plan the lives of citizens."

Reminds me how the media manipulated the last election.
120448 I think that It's the concept of "bread and circuses." People are so wrapped up in getting free phones, free health, welfare, people are becoming more and more dependent on the government, and fail to see that they're rights are slowly being stripped away.
