Well, I know Leisa wanted to read The Dice Man, so should we just go with that one??? Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is VERY sad, but such a powerful story. I really like learning about the Holocaust, I think because I can't fathom what happened, and that people could actually do that to other human beings. I visited Dachau concentration camp and another camp when I was overseas and it was really harrowing! I cried heaps when I was there, but I felt like it is important that people know about what happened so it doesn't ever happen again, and so the people who suffered can be remembered. But I totally get that it is too much and would give you nightmares. It's a horrific part of history. I like teaching students about it when I'm doing history as I feel really passionate when I teach it, and it brings out the empathy of the students with the toughest shells. The students get so passionate about it too.
On another note, Let's do The Dice Man then :)
I recon my picks will be:Let the Right One In
The Dice Man (I want to read this too after Leisa mentioned it to me! ha ha)
Have you read "The Book Thief" Jules? Personally, I hate reading books and watching movies about animals. I read Marley and Me once and burst out crying on the train to work in London, it was soooooooo embarassing!! ha ha ha
So I've just been comparing "to read" books that I have in common with both of you and here they are:JULIA
The perks of being a wallflower
Carrie
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
Delirium
High Fidelity
MaddAddam
The Witch’s Daughter
LEISA
The Dice Man
Let the Right One In
Divergent
You guys may also have books that are the same as well. Soooooo, what do you think we should read in January?
We could alternatively all suggest a couple of books each and then just pull one out of a hat or something??
Let me know what you think :)
You're doing much better than I am!!! I'm not even half way through. I should have heaps more time to finish it up now though. I'm enjoying it a lot so far, although wish I hadn't seen the movie version first! ha ha
So we need to start seeing whether anyone else would like to join our little group. Then maybe see if they have a Goodreads profile, and if not, encourage them to make one as it is a really good way for us to interact as a group and share books etc. What do you think? I've had a couple of derby people say they are interested but need to add them.
So we should probably start thinking about what book we would like to read in January. We could compare our "WANT TO READ" lists and add titles to this discussion. I'll then collate a list of suggested titles and maybe we can have a vote on them??So let's say the deadline for suggesting books could be up until 15th December. Then we'll vote after that.
