I've never heard of that author before, so thanks for the book recommendations. And I agree with you when it comes to liking anything with a Gothic setting. It's what makes them so special. :-)

I love creepy old houses, too! 'Rebecca' is one of my favourites, another is 'The Woman in Black.' Not sure if it's classified as Gothic, but it's a wonderfully creepy ghost story.
Apart from reading one Mary Stewart novel ('Rose Cottage'), I don't think I've read the other authors you mentioned, so thank you. I have heard of Victoria Holt, just never read any of her books.

I do love the classics, and like Carrie, the Brontes are a favourite. And I completely agree about ghosts! Any story with a ghost always grabs my attention. ;-)
