I actually have a bit of a similar experience with it.. Don't really remember much but I do remember it not quite hitting the mark for me back when I read it. Might be interesting to revisit though in order to find out why. Did you read it recently and if so, what would you speculate were the elements to give you that impression?

For pure entertainment I remember liking Maze Runner and Scythe series, they have nothing in common with the mentioned examples but could be classified as dystopian by some standards :D
