119800 Greetings Shaman, Not much activity in this discussion topic, so thought I might add here a book I highly recommend....The Complete Book of Spells, Ceremonies and Magic It is not really a book for beginners, but for those who wish to extend their understanding of ritual magic, it is ideal.

119800 I also still use the deck I first bought over 20 years ago. Though I mainly teach tarot online now - I still do the occasional professional reading.

I prefer the Rider Waite deck as it is based on Anglo-Saxon symbolism which I indentify most closely with. As a second preference, I like the ancient Greek tarot decks as I studied ancient Greek religion at university.

I prefer to use the traditional Rider Waite deck when I read, but will teach the reading of most decks. When I do teach - I never give fixed card interpretations - I prefer my students to learn the art of interpreting symbolism (as a condition of teaching my students agree to throw out the booklet that comes with their deck). For I agree with Deanna, there is nothing worse than a reader who sits there interpreting from a book!

119800 Greetings Shaman and Kristen,
My name is Ariel and I live in Australia. I also love reading books centred on personal growth and spirituality. In fact I have just finished re-reading a marvelous book focused on spiritual personal growth by Traci Harding titled Book of Dreams: Book of Dreams by Traci Harding

Synopsis:

A book is left on the doorstop of a young man with no future and no past who lacks direction in life. Inside the cover it reads:

It has been brought to our attention that you seem to be totally lost. If you wish to come to know what it is that constantly eludes you in life... I am your transport to seek within.

He turns the page...

Traci Harding is an Australian author, and the Book of Dreams is centred on Indigenous spirituality. It is authentic and stimulates inner-self examination. A must read for any seeker on the spiritual personal growth path..
