50x66 The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.

50x66 I am reading The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.

My book is a historical fiction novel, and explores social issues.

Historical fiction: Based in Kabul, The Kite Runner explores the life of those living in Afghanistan in the late 1900s. The Kite Runner explores the Soviet invasion, and the religious and ethnic conflicts in Amir's (the protagonist) home country. Providing insight into the end of the Afghan monarchy and the subsequent changes to Amir's life and lifestyle, I would classify this book as historical fiction.

Social Issues: Amir and Hassan have been friends for their entire lives. When Amir is unfaithful to Hassan, it tears a rip in their sacred friendship. Amir and his father Baba also have a distant bond where Amir believes the only way he and his father can become close is through his winning of the kite flying tournament. Even though he makes his father proud, their new connection begins to fade. The Kite Runner explores the ties of friendship, father son interactions, and the variables that change these relationships forever.
