Hug and pulled away to make room for my mother who immediately begin to cry as she held onto me. “All right, let him go, come on.“ My father waved my mother on into the house, leaving me to go into the cab and begin my journey. Once I’d gotten onto the train and got settled in a comfortable compartment, I let myself drift off to sleep, dreaming of the new life now had in front of me. When I opened my eyes, light streaming from the small, paneled window in my compartment. Looking out at the wide field of grass slowly melding into denser brush and woods, I guessed myself to be a mere hour or so from the school. As it turned out, I was correct in that assumption for in about 70 minutes the train slowly halted as the platform, and shivering with nervousness and anticipation, I stepped off. After I had collected my things from the train I was at a loss as to where to go. Turning in circles around the platform, I ran into someone else doing the exact same as I. “Oh! I am so sorry!” I exclaimed, stepping back to see who I had bumped into. It was a tall light–haired boy who look about the same age as I.
“No worries!” He laughed “you look lost, is it your first year?” “Yes.” I admitted. “To both. I mean, in lost and I’m new.”
“Same here.” He grinned holding out his hand. “I’m kaven, and you are?” “Vincent.” I said, shaking his hand. “It’s nice to meet you.”

Chapter one

After careful consideration of my past, I have made myself the arduous task of composing an assemblage of knowledge I have learned over the years that our world is in dire need of. After all, as Marcus Garvey elucidated, “A people without knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”
We’ll start at St. Dorian’s Preparatory School, where I first met the people who would change the trajectory of my life forevermore.


August 32,1896


It was still dark when we packed all of my belongings into the Hansom cab, which would take me to the train. My parents had told me that they would not be accompanying me on the trip, but would see me off in the early morning, as they were doing now. “Now,” my mother fussed over me as I tried to pry myself away and escape to the cab. “Don’t forget everything your father and I have taught you, make sure you respect your teacher and obey their commands, do well in your studies, try to find friends, and take care of yourself!
