50x66 The Ancient Mesopotamia god Enlil was one of the supreme gods of his time. As a god who was worshipped over 5000 years ago, his name is still connected to our everyday life.
The name Enlil was subject to several interpretations over time. One of these interpretations was Elil. Elil can be found in the Greek vocabulary around 2000 BC. Enlil was often cited as one of the creators of man in ancient Mesopotamia. And the word “Lil” often referred to men. From the Greek languages (partially) rose the French language. In the French language the word “il” or “ils” to this day refers to the English “he”; or men. This has a direct connection to present day Illinois. The word ”Illinois” comes from the French way of referring to the native American “men of the region” or Illinois. So it is not a coincidence that our hero from Gliders of Enlil, Jon Bishop, is from Oakbrook, Illinois.
Too much of a stretch? Maybe. But it’s part of what makes writing fun.
