I rarely don't finish all my picks but this month I was behind by two. I'm reading one right now:
. Man, this is such a good series!
Christina wrote: "I read

I was interested in how he said it was the worst tectonic event in history in terms of lives lost, and then I realized it was originally published BEFORE the 2004 tsunami which took a quarter of a million lives. I bet he found that eye-opening!

What brand do you drink? I drink Tea Forte's raspberry, and it's almost like a raspberry syrup, the flavor is so rich. Glad you're better.

Cleaner does quite well out of me as well!"Heh. I recently moved, and I ended up giving a friend of mine my unstarted cross-stitch stuff because I don't do it anymore. I thought, great, less to pack! Then she gave me all her mom's unused baking stuff because she can't bake anymore, and I wound up with just as much or more to pack than I started with....

I have a version of the same problem. I keep finding myself knocking off my Audible Plus choices before they expire, and stuff I actually own languishes unattended...
I liked Prufrock better than Wasteland, I recall, but all of this was high-school and college-era reading and I don't remember either very well. If you like epistolary historical novels, you could try Evelina (read about Frances Burney, too, apparently she was a companion to the British royal family) or Les Liaisons dangereuses, both of which are wonderful reads.

I'm glad you liked "Gucci" because it's coming up for me as well. And I agree with you about "The Island" -- I read that fairly early on after hearing about Elinbrand, and liked it at the time, but you are correct that her newer works are stronger. I really liked the "Paradise" series.
I haven't read your first two yet, Lorna, but I read
sometime in the early 2000s because that time period interests me. Looking forward to what you pick next!
That's the most light-hearted review I've heard of that, Lillie -- I admit I've been put off by the heaviness of the reaction. I'll move this up on the list. Thanks for sharing it!

Will do. I *VERY VAGUELY* remember that happening. I was about 8 at the time. It's one of a list of high-profile world events that I recall being in my environment but don't know anything substantive about. Kent State is another - we were living in Ohio at that time - as is the early 70s era of Vietnam and the mid-70s era of Cambodia. The first "big event" I have any real, touchable memory of is Watergate, because my parents sat the three of us down to watch the resignation and pointed out how rare it is in world history for an upheaval of that magnitude to take place at the top of a government and a bloodless, smooth transition to result.
I remember the moonwalk somewhat, though -- another "sit here and watch history being made" event for a then five-year-old me.
Heh. We were living in Dallas and my mom was pregnant with me when JFK got assassinated. She'd been watching the motorcade on TV (yeah, in those days you had three channels...) and got bored, turned the TV off and went into the kitchen. Two minutes later the phone rang.
Lance wrote: "So which book have I read first? Naturally, “Playmakers”. It was great - anyone who’s a NFL fan must read this one."Yay! I want to read that one too. Of course once I read about the Spencer Haywood book that one went on my list too. LOL
