1151883 Spooky month is nearly upon us, with more horror stories being released by authors and compilations being made by the avid thriller fan. What are some of your favorite spooky stories? Are they part of compilations or stand alone novels? And what makes them so utterly chillingly to you? I’d love to hear what you all got!

1151883 This is actually a question I have because my mother (who is visually impaired) misses reading books. I want to read her some but I’m unsure of what I should do. Should I keep it to shorter books of the genres she likes? Or should I invest in audiobooks of the books I knows she likes and set it up for her that way? I also don’t know if she has anything to play the audiobooks so would I have to invest in a player as well? Please let me know your thoughts!

1151883 Ahahaha, I am surprised that I ended up having zero time for reading this instance, but I'm still going to read Gideon the 9th! This will be interesting.

1151883 I actually didn’t bring any books with me on this trip I’m on and I only just purchased Gideon the 9th while I’m here. That’s got me thinking, do you guys prefer long or short books to read when you’re vacationing? Or are you the type who has too many plans that reading doesn’t work out for you?

1151883 New month, new post! Today I'd like to ask you, my friends, about the book(s) that really changed your lives. What was the point that made you reflect on yourself, maybe decide that you really cared about something or vice versa? For me, the book that really changed me as a person was QUEER: The Ultimate LGTB Guide for Teens Queer The Ultimate LGBT Guide for Teens by Kathy Belge .

It was my first blatant contact with anything queer and helped me understand better as a person (and as a queer transgender individual). It also made me want to become more involved in my local PRIDE centers.

So what about you? Has a work ever had a profound effect on you?

I am so with you on wanting to collect books. I have several that qualify as "collectible editions" so their market value is only going to go up with the times. But I am careful when reading them, because I still use them for enjoyment!

1151883 Oooh these are all so interesting! I agree paperbacks are good but audiobooks! I keep forgetting those are a thing lol. I should really look into getting more audiobooks but to purchase one seems like more money than the actual book! And my local library is too small and underfunded to carry current audiobooks. :(

1151883 I’m rather curious to know what formats you guys like reading in. I normally love reading actual paperbacks or hardcovers, though I’m steadily realizing that I don’t have room to pitch more books lol. What about ebooks and whatnot? What medium do you guys prefer to get your dose of reading?

1151883 Hmm!! These sound like good stuff to indulge in! Also, childhood books are so nostalgic. I reread Heidi for the first time in a long time and it was. So good.

1151883 Because I’m always out for more books, one of the things I have been interested in since the onset of late Spring is gardening and/or flower books! It’s a foray into a new territory, as I have little knowledge about gardening aside from some basic stuff, but I find it exciting. Is anyone else interested in a new topic or genre of books that they might pursue?

1151883 Being really into a book is good though I can commiserate my playlist becoming more chaotic the more into a book I am. Sometimes I suffer the opposite and can’t find those right tubes that just vibe with me and say my song, which inevitably leads me to looking for more music and then I’m spending money on music AND books!! lol

1151883 I wonder if a horror novelist that compiles playlists for writing has haunting music or total bops listed in their queues? It's interesting to think about tbh.

I have never seen the playlists complied by Meyer but I have heard they're good. But given that I've never read (nor plan to) her books, I guess that's okay?

1151883 I'm stressed out and often, when I'm stressed, I look to winding down in a quiet place with a cup of hot tea and a really good book. Sometimes it's a short story or part of a series I'm looking to finish. Does anyone else do that too? What's your book (or books) for calming down and feeling good again?
May 06, 2021 09:34AM

1151883 Mom has agreed to lend me her nook so that I can download Gideon the 9th and read it. Let's face it, I have no more room on my bookshelves for more books and I HONESTLY want to read this.
May 05, 2021 11:38PM

1151883 Wow, that sounds amazing!! Novels (graphic or not) that have impactful music are powerful!

1151883 Georgia wrote: "Well I mean... The paperback *is* very aesthetically pleasing.... but a total valid dilemma. I can't read anything on a normal screen"

Same, I can only stare at a screen for so long before I have to say nope, time to rest my eyes. Plus it's always more satisfying to me to be reading through a paperback and nearly tear a page because I'm going so fast, enraptured by the plot.

1151883 Georgia wrote: "People that can make playlists from books and stuff are so POWERFUL. I cannot. I feel like I don't have a good enough music taste to even try. I do do the "oh this song reminds me of this situation..."

That's okay, I sometimes don't make playlists and just go for a "general vibes" kind of thing. I do that a lot for fanfics lol. But I'm sure your taste in music is good, and probably fits something that you read! Never feel pressured to making a playlist unless you want to though.
